Seriously. I've had 3 games in a row now where people have just sat there blowing themselves up and getting the other team 30 points. Is there any sort of report or kick function for these idiots who decide to waste people's money by doing absolutely nothing?
Blast Network Griefers
Unfortunately I don't see how griefing is against any of the rules. Welcome to online games
@eek5 exactly the problem, can there be some sort of anti suicide feature like if you kill yourself 5 times in a row you have a increased time death penalty?
Yeah, just boot people who suicide like 5 times in a row. It unfairly punishes bad players but whatever lol
...People who bomb themselves and grief like this actually make a large amount of points. I know 2 people on the top 10 list right now who are using botting programs to roll casual points in and not even have to play. The only cost they have to sustain is a loss of 200 crowns.
They can just sit there and be bombed, and they still get points. The only difference is that their characters are doing it automatic and don't need to sleep or do other activities.
They're cheating.
What's the best way to report this? I reported a bot/alt for scamming... I was scammed out of a win... wasn't I?
Captcha: Separates the men from the bots/idlers.
If you die enough times in a row, to respawn you have to fill one out, easy peasy.
Successfully filling it out lets you respawn instantly.
Captcha is hardly a good defense against bots.
Captcha is an awful filter option, especially for a game like this. I don't want to waste time typing shenanigans in order to play something right away.
That's just not worth dealing with these guys.
I'm confused, I thought if you die everyone gets a point...
Oh FFA team play?
In Eden Eternal, they occasionally have captchas pop up as anti-bot measures. All they have you type is four numbers, which is easy enough with the numpad. They even refill your mana bar for you! I think typing 4 numbers into a little box isn't that big a deal, and if it works, so much the better.
@Eek5
Plenty of games have successful mechanics to control griefers, afkers, smurfs, etc. Some of those games would be unplayable in lower ranks without them. With the current system used in Spiral Knights, seems that counted trolls can bring the entire PvP system down if you are not in guild games or FFA games, and that's really messed up. It's a flaw, not a "welcome to the internet" feature. That argument is flawed and broken in countless ways.
That's just crazy. I played with most of the people on the list, so I'm actually curious to who they may be. But yeah in a lot of games there are a bunch of afkers. Sometimes it is a game of who kills the afker first. I imagine it would be hard to weed the bots out, I've seen many players lose to afkers...

Examples? I don't think I've ever played a competitive online multiplayer game without running into griefers before.

Terms of service, section 6, item 14: Players may not "engage in any behavior that is contrary to the 'spirit of the game' as defined by Three Rings in its sole discretion." It seems pretty clear to me that this is contrary to the spirit of the game. If, as Errodu suggests, these people are botting, it is also in violation of item 13: Players may not "modify any files or use any game hacking/altering/cheating software or tools, including scripting or macroing software, or attempt to disassemble the game client and/or decipher the data transmissions between Spiral Knights' client and server." (Emphasis added.)
It is unfair to group bot and people who do not know how to play in the same category. I think it might be better off to let the beginners play with each other for a while before they go on to face some more challenging players.
I would really like to see an Elo rating system in the future update of Blast Network. Basically what this rating system would do is that it rates how good a player is compared to others based on the Kill/Death Ratio (KDR) of that individual (in this case, the Elo should be calculated by the KDR of a player in a period of time, and KDR should be reset after, say, 5 hours to keep the Elo reliable.) Based on the rating, a player would be grouped to play with others who have similar ratings within a specific range, for example , a player with an Elo of 1270 should be put in the same match with another player with an Elo of 1290 or 1300.
Since a player's Elo will not remain constant for a long period of time (there are days that my computer acts like a drunk), that player could play with a variety of people with different ratings ranging from ultra-low (griefers and bots) to god-like. Also, if you manage to win a match ( especially if it is full of people with high-ratings) your Elo should increase, and vice versa.
Back to the main topic, with this system in place, you would probably see less griefers and bots (if you are good of course) in your match, and if you are terrible you might find yourself in a match filled with afk-ers (good chance to practice and temporary increase your Elo.)
I hope my idea provided some help.
Read more about Elo here:

Have fun blasting!
Edit:
I forgot to mention that you can't possibly farm your points if this system is incorporated into the existing match-making system. Farming causes your Elo to go through the roof, and you will play with people with skillz.

HoN has the verified account system. LoL has The Tribunal. Bloodline Champions has Leaver Protection (and they are working on smurfs, afkers, etc), and so on.
The fact that you can't come with a solution it doesn't mean that anyone would be able to. There are plenty of talented people out there that can, will and are bringing different approaches of solutions to these kind of problems.
The "welcome to the internet" argument is outdated, submissive, lazy, barfs ignorance all over the place, and lacks bases and common sense. It's flawed and broken in every way imaginable.
After tomorrow I am going to bribe kromo and see I can get a mask.
That sounds bad, type /complain their_nickname_here to complain about them, best to /tell them with the stuff they did before you /complain so the GMs can investigate as the complain form is really vague. Thats for instant requests, but now that you aren't ingame you should submit a support ticket explaining what they did.
