I know there's a Bazaar part of the forum right now, but will players be able to set up in-game storefronts to sell crafted items and suchlike in exchange for crowns or crystal energy?

Marketplace or Storefront

From a quick forum search I did a few days ago, I read that there may be a marketplace of sorts, similar to the Energy Depot now but for Items, possibly located in the East Side of Haven. Not sure if this is fact or fiction. But I think its a pretty obvious and good idea.

An in game storefront for each character seems a little more elaborate and unnecessary to me. Are we talking physical stores for each person? Or like in a similar fashion to right clicking to trade they can also click your store and its just a popup of stuff you are trying to sell, perhaps with a wish list as well?

Dear God No!

Let me clarify, that a way of selling one's goods while offline (a la Auction House) would be a nice-to-have feature.

But having crowds and piles of AFK Knights selling/buying this-and-that is a horrid method of running a marketplace.
These Spiral Knights seem to be sufficiently advanced, technologically, to do something better than a medieval barter exchange bazaar.

Paska,

Oh, I should have done a search for marketplace rather than stores.

Either idea (a physical store for each person who wants to, kind of like how guildhalls exist for each guild; they're all the same, they're just like special levels) would work for me. Maybe if you want a physical store, you need to pay a certain amount of crowns (or was it crystal energy?) that you would for a guild.

Oh, ok. I can see how that would be a mess.

cryptomancer,

Oh, ok. I can see how that would be a mess. I like any way that would make it possible for me to be able to sell while offline and be more convenient than tracking by forum or getting individual mail messages, so an Auction House type of feature would be fine for me.

Mostly I just like to craft for some reason, probably something to do with my OCD-like desire to collect material and then needing to do something with them. I figure if I can sell them for crowns or crystal energy, I can then delve and kill off better/bigger monsters for better/more material, and then do more crafting, repeat cycle....

A market would be awesome.

A market would be awesome. One of the major things I was looking forward to with the game going live is a the new huge player base. Should make selling items much easier. Being able to market to only 50 people at a time (havens) is annoying so I am all for a universal auction house system.

tbh I think the forums

Honestly I think the forums makes it easier, and I always have players usually just ask me "hey nj do you have this recipe" Yes I can craft it 1sec etc.

As long as...

... As long as it doesn't end up like Ragnarok Online, with piles of merchant characters spamming their wares for sale, and afking w/ bots.

I would like to see an implementation that would allow us to buy sell goods without having to be online. One type that I have see before and really liked, was a kind of market where you can place your items, the price, quantity (if applicable), etc, and they stay up regardless of whether or not you are logged on, and you are notified a sort of "receipt" the moment you log back on. (Perhaps similar to the system Dragonica had, or WonderKing, if anyone has ever had a peek at these MMOs.)

Knights could search through the market by item, item type, Knight name, price, highest popularity, etc... It would be a nice, simple, dynamic system, where there would be no need for users to stay logged on in order for their wares to be purchased. The pros of this sort of system greatly outweigh the cons, especially when considering some of the other systems out there (like that of MapleStory's... -headache-).
