Quick question about damage

I was wondering when an enemy hits you does the normal damage hit for the same as their chosen damage?

(Example)
when a kat hits you is it 3 normal damage and 3 shadow damage or is it more shadow damage to normal damage?

In Tier 2, yes. In Tier 3, it

In Tier 2, yes. In Tier 3, it deals mostly their special damage and little to no Normal (unless their attack is SUPPOSED to be Normal, like from unmerged Lichen slimes)

It depends on the monster and what tier your in. But yes, in general the damage value for split types is half each of the total.
