Hey folks, looking for some opinions again.
I'm sitting here with a Brute Jelly Shield, and a Great Defender (High Normal UV), and I'm not sure which one to go with as my first 5* shield.
Personally I'd like a Royal Jelly shield because of the appearance and that it offers some stun resistance when the shield is active. On the other hand my Great Defender offers a higher than average Normal Defense.
Just to offer some specs on my Knight, I'm going with a Divine Veil and either a Vog Cub/Skolver Coat, and I tend to solo more often, maybe have one person with me.
So, is that stun resistance worth it? Should I be more worried about normal attacks than piercing? Then again Alpha Wolvers eat through my less pierce defensive shields like candy and getting surrounded by slimes and those tree enemies ain't fun either.
As for a UV, well I figured I'd see what may come up with the craft upgrades, and if there's nothing good just use a hand full of tickets till something good does come up.
The Defender line has a better shield than the Jelly line. I agree, the Royal Jelly shield looks nice, but stun resist doesn't make up for lower defense.
If someone is going to carry a Normal/Piercing shield it should probably be the Barb Thorn Shield, then at least it has a Sword Damage Bonus to make up for the defensive abilities.
As far as Alpha Wolvers go, no 5* Piercing shield can tank them. In fact, all shields will break, so the best defense for Alpha Wolvers is to dodge and run. There is a good deal of time between attacks, so get in there and knock them down if you can. When they show the attack warning, get away and then attack again.
Just for reference, the Lumbers actually do mixed normal/elemental damage now depending on Tier.
