No more respect for Bethesda
Well after avidly awaiting the new elder scrolls to come out, a dilemma came about.
http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/170-bethesda-mojang-scrolls/
Apprantly Bethesda threatened to sue Mojang..... for the use of the word 'Scrolls'
So much for that respect
Yeah, I heard about that.
The lawsuit IS stupid - in every sense of the word, but I wouldn't go so far as to say I've lost respect for Bethesda.
They've done waaaaaaay to much to gain that from me to lose it because of a stupid lawsuit.
I think folks should be hating Zenimax more than Bethesda for this stupid stunt.
I'd sue if them other company said "Elder Scrolls"... both words. :D
I saw "No more..." and expected a thread for No More Heroes for some reason.
That's what listening to Pleather for Breakfast does to you.
Ontopic: Well, there are stupider things. Like denying somebody to donate his blood because he's homosexual.
I see something like this is just going to pass by, I mean there are worse titles that look like they copied another.
Example-Lord of the Rings Rise of the Witch King and World of Warcraft Rise of the Lich King - I wonder what would happen if Blizzard would have sued them for that.
Later on in the post it says that there are two different entities in this. Bethesda Softworks is suing Mojang, not Bethesda Game Studios.
It's still stupid. If this case wins, it's a precedent for "evil" big companies like Activision and EA and Bethesda/Zenimax to go suing games with marginally similar game names to their own.
Shrugged off by notch: "Notch feels he has a solution to the pending lawsuit between Mojang and Bethesda - a Quake 3 tournament! He provided the following stipulations:
"Three of our best warriors against three of your best warriors. We select one level, you select the other, we randomize the order. 20 minute matches, highest total frag count per team across both levels wins.
If we win, you drop the lawsuit.
If you win, we will change the name of Scrolls to something you’re fine with."
As of this writing, Bethesda has not responded to the challenge."
....lol
Well, we didn't see THAT one coming.
- Theory
Bethesda hasn't cared about losing respect for a long time.
That said, they have a branding they want to protect. They don't want viral marketed blockfests to get confused with their AAA game.
I can understand that.
