Why can't I equip a Helm as a costume and Armor?

For some reason, It won
't let me, it switches to another helmet look if I equip a certain helmet as an armor

Equip your helm and/or armor

Equip your helm and/or armor as the real thing, then right click whatever your costume is "Unequip costume." There ye go.
