It's a totally serious question,i wonder if OOO considers making the mini game playable for non American users
So when will Spiral Bomberman be playable?
I think he meant "Not-plagued-by-what-most-certainly-isn't-lag-at-all-no-sir-this-thing-has-a-virtual-server-based-on-some-farts-made-by-a-site-that-doesn't-even-ship-albums-or-heck-anything-to-places-like-Pakistan-so-it's-not-lag-at-all-no-sir"
me bitter much? not at all.
Yeah, I play it every day. Works just fine.
Stop making whinelag threads. There are enough of them. The answer is 'go fix your router'.
And before I am told (again) that my opinion isn't valid because I don't know anything about how internet works, remember that I had the same problem and I fixed it.
Y'hear that? YOUR END. Just imagine for a moment that that could possibly be where the problem lies.
And before I am told 'no its not my prblm my computer is the best and i play games like tf2 and superbreakout just fine on my network'...
Well, my response to that is to shake my head in disgust and walk away.
Could you give me a modem that reduces ping by 500ms too please?? Do not keep everything for yourself selfish boy!
I dont no how to internet plz halp me
by new router wut is dat?
It's a type of fish, Shoebox. You wear it on your head.

Now back to the topic, please. This is a legitimate question. Right now, there is no possible way to significantly reduce the lag client-side. That is, if other online games work fine. If there is (unlikely), please post them. I guess thousands of non-American players would appreciate them.
Stop making whinelag threads. There are enough of them. The answer is 'go fix the speed of light'.
And before I am told (again) that my opinion isn't valid because I don't know anything about how anything works, remember that I had the same problem and I fixed the electrons. Getting only 299,792,458 meters per second out of your electrons means you haven't adjusted your router enough.
Y'hear that? YOUR ELECTRONS. Just imagine for a moment that your slow electrons could possibly be where the problem lies.
And before I am told 'no its not my prblm there's no pssble way a packit could go from the US to another continent instantly and i play games like tf2 and superbreakout just fine on my network'...
Well, my response to that is to shake my head in disgust and walk away.
This is probably the greatest issue 3 rings is struggling with. The lag issue is apparent throughout the whole game and not just blast network. I really hope they got this on top priorety. I don't just mean server lag, but also fps lag. (those twin runs are unnescesarely laggy)
I play from the UK with a low end internet connection (the standard BT conn. No 100MB fiberop lines or anything like that. More like 7MB copper phonelines) and don't experience much lag.
The occasional spike here and there maybe but pvp is quite playable.
So either your internet connection is bad, your router is dropping packets or your link to the States is bad. If it's your connection try getting a better connection if one is offered wherever you are. If your router is dropping packets then try getting a new router. If it's your country's link to the USA then there is nothing you can do until the game is big enough to warrant location specific servers. This is true of any internet multiplayer game that doesn't have local dedicated servers.
*Yeah, I play it every day. Works just fine.

That might have worked for YOU, but for 95% of people, there's absolutely nothing they can do to fix the horrific lag issues caused by the garbage servers that the game uses.
"Fix your router" is a pathetic excuse. While there might be a couple of people here and there who have badly set up system, the cause of lag for everyone else is the servers that Spiral Knights uses. Simple as that.
Hopefully, as the game expands, and OOO makes more money, they'll eventually upgrade to something that's not crap.
You know, Steam offers servers. And they're kickass.
Sturak. That could only be true if EVERYBODY had lag.
We don't.
Not everybody has lag.
Lots and lots of players can play just fine with no lag. Do you see Zenstar there? No lag. If the problem is at the server, how do you explain his lack of lag?
If there were a problem with the servers, every player would lag.
Have you even tried to do anything on your end to fix the problem? Have you opened ports, enabled QOS, plugged into the router?
By your tone, I would suspect not.
As mentioned, it's a lot easier to make a lot of noise and cast responsibility about.
It is harder to stand up and take some responsibility for once.
Guess which group I think you're a part of?

1. see the difference between the UK and the rest of Europe? (see option 2 if u're not satisfied and and/or ignorant and/or your name's casey)
2. and what bunnyhair wrote is true aswell.
online games especially are affected by the distance between client and server so anyone claiming he doesn't have a high ping/latency/lag from europe->usa using a normal isp (i dunno about some special army/university satellite lines or whatever) is either lying or he/she/it doesn't know better.
stop trying to deny physics, it gets tiresome.
And that's Three Rings's fault? You want them to run some more undersea cables for the rest of Europe?
You are still only diluting every honest effort to make the game more playable.
That is what you are doing.
There are very many players who could benefit from hearing what they can do to make their experience more fun and playable.
If you are one of those people who are simply beyond Three Rings' reach, it is the gods you should rage at for making the planet so large, not Three Rings.
If you are not, then you may as well try everything you can, aside from calling other players names and blaming the makers of a computer game.
THE PING IS TOO DAMN HIGH.
Casey, where was it again where you live?
See, I play from China, and I lag like hell. No, it's not my router's fault, in fact we recently bought a new one, and for all the other games I play (excluding Transformers WfC) I don't lag, at all. I play on european servers just fine. So is it too much to ask for there to be european or asian servers? Just 'cuz you "fixed" your router and everything became all fine and dandy doesn't mean the same applies to us. So, please, take a chill pill, go for a walk, and leave the "whinelag" threads, as you call them, alone. This is a serious issue for all international players, we just simply can't enjoy the game like this.
ITT Casey needs to have his brain removed and hooked up to a computer in Bangladesh, from where it will remote-control a robotic body with realistic pain sensors (calibrated to "Morphine withdrawal") and midget proportions and an armor made of raw beef steaks. This robot body will be placed on an island that contains a heavily populated lunatic asylum, a large and thick jungle full of the most rabid and ferocious bears, komodo dragons, and chimpanzees and an active volcano.
It will have at least one or two base stations for building backups and repair and for managing the connection between his body and the computer in Bangladesh. The people managing the stations will be selected from employees of Pakistan's power supply and ISP companies and inhabitants of various trailer parks in the United States and the stations will have motivational posters made by the propaganda department of North Korea.
His robot body will be armed with a nerf gun and the most ridiculous adult toy rubber and plastic can ever combine themselves into, and he will not be allowed to return to his normal body until he kills 2144 people/animals and collects 123445 cherries.
ITT everybody has their computer science degree and is a super 1337 haxur.
@casey
Do you really think just replacing your router will improve your ping from 300+ to below 100? Most people can't do this because they live pretty far away, like Pakistan, Taiwan, The Maladives, etc... not just Europe (Yeah, Spiral Knights is pretty damn popular).
And if so, do you think all of us have the money to do that kind of crap?
So far, my opinion is this: the Blast Network is not very fun, with or without lag. It just ruins my day even more when I get in and lag to death, so I just avoid it most of the time.
I love how everyone's all like "It's because you don't live in the U.S."
I live in the U.S.. I even live in California, which I've heard OOO has their servers. In other games I have little to no issues with lag, the only time I ever encounter problems is when I host a private minecraft server and join it with the same computer and ten other people, and even then it's minimal. However, even at the best of times I find myself being pulled back to places I intentionally avoided being in for any amount of time, dying to explosions that didn't appear until after the bomb had already run it's course, and other various problems.
It's my fault you say?
Everyone I've ever played with has had the same issues. I see some people in this thread have not. I trust that they speak the truth, I see no reason why they would but I'm fairly certain everyone in this thread has been rubberbanded back to someplace in an enemy's attack or shielded and then somehow got hit through it simply because the client is that far ahead of the server (which, btw, silly way to compensate for lag. I'd rather be slowed down so that I can react in a different way, than react properly and then be moved back to where you actually are).
I really do love playing this game, but this is an issue that needs to be properly addressed and not written off as the customer's problem when so many of them have it.
Save it, people like Casey don't think of anyone but themselves.
Two things.
1. Lag compensation and/or servers in other locations of the world.
2. Please stop being so self-righteous, you are not helping us. We want to play the game because we like it, we can't as well as we would like to.
caseyweederm is an idiot. He/she obviously has no clue what lag is. I was born and raised in Cali so during those days gaming was great. I'm in Asia now and the lag is terrible to the US. Why do you think WOW has set up Oceanic/Asian servers? Why not just base all those servers in the good old USA? Maybe Blizzard should have told this side of the world that there is no lag and we just need to buy a new router. I'm not saying OOO has the same resources as Blizzard but setting up just one server would help a lot. Lag is a real issue for those far from the servers. I am ready to throw down some money if OOO ever sets up a server on this side of the world. Honestly, as a free game I can't complain that much. I know lag is an issue and I try to play as well as I can with it. That means I don't really play the PVP due to my character warping around. The regular game can be playable at times but I really have to compensate and adjust my gameplay if I don't want to die a hundred times. If OOO wants my money though, they're going to have to do something that makes me want to give it to them. Until then, I'll just play the game for free.
On a side note. For those of you who are old enough to remember Quake, most people played on modems. Pings were usually over 300. That's what people get now being across the sea from the US. ID released Quakeworld with the latency prediction and it made playing Quake on a modem very enjoyable. That was over ten years ago. OOO must be able to do something similar over ten years later.
Also rather than a bunch of bars, why not show the actual ping on the top right of the screen? I have never passed 1 red bar. In fact, I didn't even know that box showed your lag (because it never changed at all until) I read it in some post. I joined during the Steam launch and the game was very playable (maybe because I was tier 1) and I could actually use my dual monitor setup to read info and play at the same time. After a week or so, the lag was horrible and I actually had to turn off my 2nd monitor and reduced the graphics to try to reduce lag after reading posts suggesting that. Trust me, my computer is very capable of running the game at higher detail and resolutions but now I run it lower in hopes that I am helping to reduce lag. Weird that everything is the same but after a week or two, the lag became horrible. I even play at times when most people would be at work in the US. Nothing has really helped. As you can see, I've been on the net for quite some time and I do know a thing or two about computers. Please don't tell me that there's no lag. I understand that I am far from the servers and therefore will have lag, but I'm just asking for OOO to set up a server over on this side of the world and even Europe to help those folks out as well. Someone should start a thread asking "Who would pay real money if OOO set up a server or two near their geographic location. I know I would. I've actually never bought a game off of Steam or paid money in a free to play game, but I recently threw $10 onto my Steam account as a test to see if my international paypal account worked on Steam. That was in anticipation of adding more money to buy one of the energy bundles from Spiral Knights. Yes, that's how much I actually like the game.
Sorry for the long post, it's been a long day over in Asia and I'm starting a 3 day weekend. Good luck everyone!
If you want to add me, my IGN is Gluey. I apologize if I lag and die on you.
Hell, 3Rings should just flat out TALK to us, let us know they're looking into the matter. But what do they do? Silence.
...Believe me, I'm beginning to think working with SEGA was a bad idea, they're starting to rub off on 3Rings in a bad way...
define playable.
