I was wondering if the stats on shields (def and resist) are passive (always on) or only active when blocking?
Shield stat question
Man, your armor stats don't help you shield in any way?
Well the Shield and the Player are two different things.
They have their own health, their own defense and their own resistances.
I think the Shield's Resistances stack with your own while blocking, but the defenses do not.
This is because Shields are no longer supposed to block status damage for you, but they still completely block other kinds of damage.
But don't quote me on it, unless you're prepared to be proven wrong by somebody that knows for sure.
Wow, this is something I would love to have clarified.
The health and defense portion are pretty straightforward. They are only active while the shield is up. They are also completely separate from your knight's stats. Two knights with the same shield but different armor would block the same damage WITH their shield before the shield breaks. The armor only comes into play once the shield is broken.
Shield health determines how much damage it takes to break that shield, the defenses mitigate part of that damage before it is applied to the shield, but only of the proper type. Drake shield in late beta was hilarious since it had 0 normal protection. A wolver bite would break it, but I could stand in the fire puppies flame jet for days without caring.
As for the status resistances, that really could use some clarification.
I was told it worked the same way, essentially. That it's a resistance that's added to your character when and only when your shield is active. Meaning your shield could block a curse or prevent you from catching fire if it has the appropriate resist.
The weird thing is I was under the impression having the shield active at all protected you from status effects, so I really don't know. I never got shocked or frozen with my shield active even though it did not grant any resistance to those stats, so who knows...
As far as we know, they only effect the shield.
