What should I do with my Brandish?

Should I turn it into a Cautery Sword (it only goes to 3*), a Nightblade, a Fireburst Brandish, an Iceburst Brandish, or a Shockburst Brandish? I'm currently thinking of Fireburst now. It looks good. But here's what I think:

WHAT I WON'T TURN IT INTO:
Nightblade

WHAT I MIGHT TURN IT INTO:
Cautery Sword (Damage bonus vs. Slime high, does 5% more damage on slime then Tempered Calibur, but goes only to 3*)
Shockburst Brandish (Good chance of causing strong SHOCK)

WHAT I'M THINKING OF TURNING IT INTO:
Fireburst Brandish (Good chance of causing strong FIRE, and as we all know, Fire is good :D)
Iceburst Brandish (Good chance of causing strong FREEZE, and for how cool it looks.)

So what should I turn it into?

I would not advise you to get

I would not advise you to get the Cautery Sword, as it does less damage than any of the other upgrades, only having a slime damage bonus, while a Nightblade's shadow damage makes it inherently do more damage to slimes AND gremlins, with possibly more if you got a damage bonus UV. Also Cautery Swords' charge attack don't have explosions.

But you don't want a Nightblade anyway, so I'd rather make a Fireburst Brandish, if I were you. It might not be so handy for fire themed maps like Firestorm Citadel, but if I wanted a weapon for every occassion, I'd have made a Calibur, not a Brandish. Everywhere else, The fire will probably be more useful than freezing something at melee range. Also, if you're going to fight the Royal Jelly with it,it might be more effective than an Iceburst, which won't ever root the Royal Jelly in place. Might be better than a Nightblade too, as I don't think Royal Jelly is weak to shadow.

Some of this is speculation though, as I haven't tested out my Fireburst/Iceburst Brandish on the Royal Jelly, I don't have a Cautery Sword, and my Nightblade is currently a Silent, so I can't really do damage comparisons right now.

Cautery Swords are awful.

Cautery Swords are awful. Awful. As mentioned, a Nightblade is a better investment all around.

Glacius/Combuster have the same damage, so the question is whether you want the status effect to be useless in Fire strata (FSC!) or Ice strata. Note that Brandish status effects are only on charge attacks, and you'll typically be using those when you need to kite - I have a Blizzbrand and almost NEVER unequip it. You wouldn't use the charge on RJ anyway, but it can be very helpful when you need to stick a Lumber or Gun puppy in place while you deal with something else. Tick damage is better if you're often grouping with idiots who break your ice, but don't underestimate the icebreak damage - it's about half of the charge attack's damage and often kills things for me when I'm solo'ing (as in they literally come out of the ice effect and die).

Personally, I favor the Ice, but you won't go wrong with either of them.

If you have any kind of good

If you have any kind of good anti-quicksilver weapon I'd go for shock. Chance for interupted attacks and good party friendlyness (teammates can't break shock like ice) are nice, but most importantly it's useful in FSC. Let's face it, pvp, merchants and a lot of other crown sinks/energy spending traps will have a higher priority than giving us more (varied) ways to earn crowns and become self sustaining.

We'll be stuck grinding our way to wealth in FSC for a long time. I hope I'll be proven wrong.

Just wondering, why would you

Just wondering, why would you consider a cautery sword and not a nightblade? Nightblade is sooo much better for slimes, especially since you can actually upgrade it. The only reason anyone would ever even get a cautery sword is cause they think it's upgradeable.

Hmm...

Cautery Sword

Only goes up to 3*, but has a High UV against slimes...BUT.

Silent Nightblade

Goes up to 5*, deals Shadow Damage, which Slimes are weak to.

Combuster

If you want to be reckless & deal tons of damage, then Charge this baby up & let loose.
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Fire

Glacius

If you want to be careful/defensive, Charge this Sword, Freeze, back up, Repeat.

Voltedge

If you want a mixture of both of Combuster & Glacius, pick this one. Shock deals Elemental Damage instead of Fire's Normal, hurts other near the Shocked monster, & does more damage if a Shocked monster gets Shocked again.

In my opinion, I'd pick Combuster or Voltedge. Combuster as my main & Volt for Firestorm Citadel. Glacius is good for FSC, too, & Cautery Sword would be suicidal. Nightblade would not be recommended for it.
