I've been debating to get a ancient mail to have the set or if I should get a Crest? I currently have a Volcanic Plate Shield with normal med. I have a grey Owlite shield bit never use it there. Is the CoA/BC really worth it?

Crest.
The Crest is probably the third or fourth best shield in the game, and is basically designed for the express purpose of dealing with fiends. The Owlite and Barbarous Thorn top it in general utility, and you can argue that Volcanic Plate is a better choice for Vanaduke, but it is pretty fantastic in FSC in its own right.

If you already have a Grey
If you already have a Grey Owlite, you're getting Elemental and Normal defense. A Thorn shield will give you Piercing and Normal, while the Crest gives Shadow and Normal. That's a pretty good set of shields for any strata in the current game.
Owlite, VPS and Crest are all quite good for FSC - it's a personal preference thing. If you don't have anything else you want to work on upgrading, it's a fine path to go.

You should know by now its not that easy. The shields in this game are very situational. VPS is good for FSC or T1-2 levels because of the obese amounts of normal defense, where Grey Owlite is good for t3 construct levels and anything that oes elemental, where CoA is good for fiends and undead levels. Its not as simple as This > That.

After encountering Devilish
After encountering Devilish Drudgery in D28 I'm getting it. Did I mention it was a shock statum? That was so much FUN!
The shield is more useful than the armor which ull prob use as a costume only.
At least the shield will be useful if ure going into a fiend strata.
