I'm in the process of a rebuild and have never been to tier 3 yet, but I am close (weapons are 3*). I have a Divine Veil with UV normal defense, medium. I have an Ash Tail Coat with UV piercing defense, medium.
I solo and mainly use swords, but have been adding bombs and some guns into the mix if it helps. I have heard that elemental is a huge issue in the third tier, specifically fire. So I thought the Veil/Vog combo would cover that. I am at the point where I am about to upgrade my coat and need to choose Skolver or Vog. If I choose Vog would it be a waste? Would the Veil with elemental and fire resist be enough or the Vog coat would not stack very well, I've heard that a lot.
Or should I go with Skolver for the piercing and freeze resist? I know Piercing isn't big, but I would rather have that if the Veil/Vog elemental won't stack or only stacks a little. So give me your input; and if you are thinking about starting your response with "It depends..." just fill in any gaps yourself or give an opinion to the best of your ability. All opinions are appreciated. I have read the the endless Vog vs Skolver (almost as bad as VPS vs Owlite) threads but could not get a concise answer to my specific dilemma. Thanks in advance.
Also, I think the new monsters 000 is working on will have a piercing attack since everyone is complaining it is not relevant enough and to balance enemies better. Agree or Disagree?
Divine Veil is awful. Skipping normal defense is a huge mistake, because many enemies actually do split damage. For example, a zombie actually does half normal, half shadow damage. Lumbers do half normal, half elemental damage. And the little bit of normal defense you get from a UV is going to mean jack unless you've got normal max on that thing.
You're not going to get the answer you want when it comes to Vog versus Skolver. Simply put, you want both.
Go ahead and turn your Ash Tail Coat into Vog Cub for now. Even though Divine Veil isn't great, combined with Vog Cub it'll at least do for Firestorm Citadel, even though you'll take more damage from Vanaduke himself. But you'll also want to work on a second set of armor. Having good piercing defense is essential for some stratums, and you can always mix and match skolver and vog cub if you end up going into some real varied stratums.
