Me and my friend have both started to play SK, I am thinking of getting up to vog cub armor and then getting ancient plate, and getting the fang of vog sword.
(I already have dusker cap and I am about to get the dusker coat)
My friend is going to get up to vog cub and get a good gun.
(He currently has wolver armor and calibur)
2 questions:
Is this a good set up?
What gun should he get?

Vog cub is good if you use swords, so good it's one of the most used armors in the game in fact. Start with that and you have a decent set to experiment every which way with, if you'd like.
Get the ancient plate, it's almost free (you don't need to buy recipes or use energy to craft, you just buy it with tokens from a boss in a dungeon that gives more crowns than it takes) and you can sell it for 30.000 per piece to NPC merchants if you don't like it, which is how people earn money from vanaduke (last boss) besides running his dungeon. Vog is perfect for fighting Vanaduke, so everything works out. Fang of vog is decent with normal attacks I've heard, but it's charge attack will sometimes set you on fire and it needs the Vog speed increase to work well, so that relies on vog too.
If your friend wants an all purpose gun, he should take something mobile and with normal damage. So either a blaster -> valiance or pulsar -> Supernova. If he wants to join you on your quest to get enough tokens to get all those items (around 33 runs) he'll have more benefit from a Pulsar -> Polaris. Polaris' Shock works wonders against Vanaduke, it sometimes prevents him from attacking and everything in the dungeon leading up to him takes increased damage from it, since it deals elemental. Outside that dungeon it might face enemies, most notably gremlins, who are resistant to elemental though.
Antigua advice is not bad but the Argent Peacemaker has no place outside of Vanaduke. If you are looking for a Vanaduke-specific weapon that will output the highest damage possible, get a Blitz Needle.
If you want to mantain the fire look, get a Firotech Alchemer:
2*, elemental dmg + fire, around 3000cr in the AH.
If you aim to do a real lot of damage to vanaduke, get an Antigua:
3*, then craft an Argent Peacemaker, piercing/elemental dmg, 20 Jelly tokens to the token trader.
If you want a real badass and easy to use gun get a Pulsar:
2*, and craft a Polaris, elemental dmg + shock, 15 bark module to the token trader.
