What's the best shield for a bomber, and why?
What's the best shield for a bomber?
Shield eeksy. Yes that is the best though.
Youll need a few though.
But if you only want one, VPS.
All-
GOS
COA
VPS
Use each in needed startum.
Not everyone is as rich as you, Bigfoot... :P
It would depend on what defenses you already have, correct? But I would suggest a Grey Owlite shield since it covers Elemental and Normal, plus a Fire and Shock resistance.
VPS is not the best shield for bombers. When properly taking advantage of bombs' crowd control abilities, there are few times that you'll need to shield. Really, the only time when bombers get into trouble is when dealing with gun puppies - which are pure elemental attacks. That is why Grey Owlite is pretty much the standard for bombers.

Why would you suggest Barb Thorn Shield for a bomber... he doesn't need the sword damage bonus, and there are better options for piercing defense - both the Aegis and Ironmight Plate Shield are superior to BTS if you don't need the bonus. One of them even has stun resist, which is useful pretty much anywhere except slime areas.
Anyways, when it comes down to it, the only difference in shields between Bombers/Gunners and Swordsmen is that swordies benefit from the Barbarous Thorn Shield. That's it; until such a time as there are shields to buff bombs and guns, shields for bombers are the same as gunners and mostly the same as swords.

Pft. Why would I need to shield if I'm not planning on taking damage? If you're not spending the majority of your time charging bombs in engagements then you're probably bombing wrong. Any 5* shield will work.
if u dont get hit, like eeks said, why not get scarlet shield?
As a newer bomber, I've just been sticking to the defender line. It's a good amount of defense, and as others have said, if your not constantly throwing down bombs, your doing it wrong. But when it comes to team comp, all swrordies and gunners HATE blast bombs with a passion, and from what I can see it's the only defensive type of bomb we bombers have. We get cornerd (and it happens to everyone) unless we have a really good shield, we NEED the blast bomb to shove back the hoard. I think it would be cool to see a new shield come out that more or less targets bombers. It would definitely help the loners, and the team players.
dragon scale shield.
elemental defense
piercing defense
fire resist
poison resist
I know this is the obvious choice but i'd say the Swiftstrike buckler. Other than that i'd say that it depends on 3 other things: what gear you have, what defense/buffs you want, and what level(s) you're doing. Also the blast bombs are good at repelling crowds.
"I know this is the obvious choice but i'd say the Swiftstrike buckler."
OP's original statement: "What's the best shield for a bomber?"
?????
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the Spiral Order armour is the worst armour set in the entire game, and Aegis is no exception to the set (Note I'm only talking about the defensive properties, not Leviathan Blade, Valiance, or Nitronome).
Best shield for a bomber? >>>Grey Owlite Shield.<<<
"dragon scale shield."
You know Normal damage is still extremely common in Tier 3, right? Even more than that, piercing defense is practically useless. That poison defense is also arguably just as useless. Only the Elemental and Fire resistance would really be good, and Grey Owlite provides Shock resistance, another great thing to resist, alongside Normal resistance, which is basically a must.
Unless you're both trolling. If so, you fooled me.
Nope.
You have to craft all of the defensive shields, or at least a large number of them for "a defensive shield" to work. Otherwise, you'll get to that one level and suddenly swiftstrike/bts feels like the better option-- provided you aren't pure bombing.
Dragon scale shield could easily fit into that mix, as it provides defense against C42, as well as elemental/piercing which = defense against turrets.

Also consider that certain items cost more than the default setup of gear, and give the knight negative stats that can't max out in the radiant drought. Plate armor is almost objectively worse than cobalt for this reason, while dread skelly/grey feather/royal jelly are close to being dead weight themselves.
nitronome
clears enough space for you to successfully charge another bomb, fast walk speed, good range and deals damage at a consistent and often lethal rate
