Damage type from Fire status?

I've searched the forums and wiki for this, but I find conflicting information. Perhaps someone from Three Rings could give us a definitive answer.

When you acquire the Fire status, you periodically take damage. What is the type of the damage? Elemental? Normal? A mixture? Some typeless damage? And does armor protect you from this damage?

Normal. The damage pips are

Normal. The damage pips are red.

Most armor would protect you roughly equally from it, so you won't notice much difference from any set without fire resistance.

Fire

The damage is "fire type". Wearing any kind of defense that isn't fire resistance won't reduce it.

cursory testing confirms; follow up question

Thanks for that (obvious in retrospect) evidence. In the ATH I have conducted cursory tests, using armor that protects against Normal only weakly, and armor that protects against Normal strongly. (Neither set of armor had any Elemental or Fire protection.) Wearing the strong-against-Normal armor I took about half as much damage from the Fire status.

Follow-up question: Fire protection lessens (A) the chances of catching fire, (B) the duration of the fire, and (C) NOT the amount of damage from the fire? That's what the wiki says, but only because I just wrote it. ;)

oops --- cursory tests were wrong

I messed up my "cursory tests". Now it appears that Normal armor doesn't help at all. Meanwhile, wearing double Vog Cub reduced the duration of the Fire status, but not the damage from it. Note well that Vog Cub protects against Normal and Elemental! So it appears that neither Normal nor Elemental armor protects you against the damage caused by fire.

Pupu, you say that the damage is "fire type". Do you know more than me (that there is a special kind of damage, beyond the usual four) or less than me (that there are exactly four kinds of damage in Spiral Knights)?

Redo

Edited: Nice to see you redid your tests.
Fire resist reduces time, chance, and damage.
Chance is hard to test though, since it requires some pretty big samples.

As for what I know, we have dome some pretty extensive testing. Which made the devs fix a bug that was awesome :(
The fire damage is not reduced by any defense other than fire in any way or form.

thanks

Thanks, Pupu. I didn't mean to insult; it's just hard to tell sometimes, whether people know what they're talking about on these forums. :)

I'd like to reiterate that my double Vog Cub setup did not appear to decrease the damage (per fire tick), but just the duration (i.e. the number of ticks I suffered). But my test was not thorough.

Thanks everybody for your input. I think that I know all that I need to know right now.

Fire does fire damage and can

Fire does fire damage and can only be reduced by fire resistance.I believe the projectile that causes the fire does elemental damage

The projectile does damaged

The projectile does damaged based on the source monster. Peppercats will still deal shadow damage and inflict fire, while Red rovers deal elemental damage.

But can there be elemental

But can there be elemental damage without any status effect?
