As in does it matter late game which set you need to have?
All my friends want to get the wolver starting because they want to do more damage all the time and they look like clones of everyone else.
I really like the end look of the Volcanic Salamander Suit but it looks like it only is effective against slimes and the only stat resist is fire.
Is this a problem end game or starting out if I want to use this set series?
Do you really need a specific armor set to be viable/ what starting set

Besides FSC, your weapon
Besides FSC, your weapon layout will probably have a bigger impact then your armor. As you start doing clockwork runs you'll get better at just not getting hit and surviving. Find out what you as a player are weak against and build your armor accordingly. That's just my advice :)

Nope, go for it. It's recommended that you use those sets because of their resistances but resistances isn't what you want to rely on (at least, not primarily). End game, it's much more important to know how to shield and avoid damage. In Tier 1, you can pretty much use anything you want, not shield and get away with it. Beyond that, shielding and dodging becomes imperative.
