maybe we also need to give it a negative status resistance to say Stun or something as well

I think it would be more useful if it had shadow defense and ASI. Then I could use it with mad bomber and sklover and have 2 medium bonuses for bombs, and 2 medium bonuses for swords, and sort of have all forms of defense.

The old sheild should stay with low peircing and damage bonus, it makes it the equivelant of a sklover sheild, minus the freeze ressist.

It's perfectly balanced.
I am thinking about balance. low ASI is equal to low damage bonus. peircing is equal to shadow. So If there were to be a sheild exactaly the same as the snarbolax sheild, but with shadow instead of peircing, and attack speed increase instead of damage bonus, they would be balanced. One might be more useful than the other, but they are perfectly balanced, becuase they have an equal tradeoff.

Sorry, going to have to disagree with you guys.
First.
Snarbolax shield is from his piercing line. It fits the theme of the level in which you receive the tokens. So no. If there was an alternate path that had shadow it wouldn't receive a damage bonus. And if it was a bonus I can hardly call adding IAS a great idea either. We have an IAS shield that adds to both guns AND swords. The shield is essentially a bubble. You pay for the overall increase to dps with a weaker shield.
Two.
If you had a Normal/Shadow shield that increased damage as well? Then there's no reason to get a Crest of Almire or bring another good shield with Normal/Elemental and a shadow UV to FSC. So no that won't happen either. No one would have any other reason to take any other shadow defense shield because of one shield that fits the bill overall. You want a damage bonus? You deal with a suboptimal shield for defense, either roll a shadow uv on it or become more proficient in dodging.
This is a case of having a cake and wanting to eat it too.
