Okey dokey I'm gonna make this as simple as possible, I have payed good money for this game, I always have. Now... I'm asking OOO is it possible to get SK for my Xbox? (hey save some fun for the PSN guys too :) THIS is something I would pay good money for. THIS is a smart investment. Also I want to ask the forums whats your opinion? do you like the idea? no? why or why not? I'm not sure how to go about it but I would love this game for a console and I would HAPPILY fork up some Microsoft points for this or just enjoy it for free... I dunno its up to them

(I want to put those castle crashers in their place, and this is the game to do it :P)

Maybe

It should have a keyboard required setting... otherwise, as much fun as it would kinda be, meh...
Communication would only be slighty difficult, too...

a fine comment indeed but that's why XBL and PSN have voice chat and you can buy a headset for 20+ big ones. people on the PC do not take advantage of this feature. personally I use my kinect to talk (just saying) but if you want to fork up 30 bucks for a messenger kit that's fine with me. so to counter your statement: voice chat(my only fear is little children invading mah beloved game)

I thought of it, but...

I'm sticking to the PC until OOO decides on this themselves.

yeah but I myself JUST ponder at the idea (yeah im slow....) and my PC is piece of @#$% and I love this game but I cant go to FSC without lagging into fire and I'm sure my console will perform much better

Swiperthefox's picture
Swiperthefox
I believe so too.

My laptop, being of lower graphics quality makes the game lag. But it's lagged and almost froze more recently than from when I originally got the game. Another thing is that I hope if they do decide on this, that they give you the ability to link your account. I played FreeRealms before... =_= It came out on PS3 and I tried it on there. It's less laggy and better performance, but it cost money to even get anywhere in the game now and you can't link your PC account, so it's worthless pretty much. So if I can't link my SK account to a PSN or Xbox Live Arcade version, it's not really worth the time to get it then.
We'll see how it turns out if they do get together and think about this.

Any USB keyboard well do instead of buying a $30 item. Random thought though, you can use the keyboard to play SK like you would on a PC, that saying if it does go on XBLA or PSN...

Oh god the little kids O_o, but to counter that, "You have to sign up on the PC first to play this game on _______ and get to a set point, most likely Haven".

wait.... is it possible to use my keyboard on XBL? if so I've been spending too many hours darting my eyes back and forth just to say.... gg. TELL ME IT IS SO

Didn't the PS3 have a wireless keyboard?

As a gunner though, I would want to have a mouse at least. But then again if I could use a mouse and keyboard on the x360 doesn't it defeat the purpose of playing on a console? :D

Possible Button Layout

It's different based on the weapon type, but triangle or Y would switch the weapons either way. Square or X for Sword Attacks, drop a bomb with Circle or B and You can choose R1/RT or X/A for firing a gun. Unless they added a jump ability for X/A, which would be pretty cool. Arsenal and Preview of yourself would both open with L1, L2, or LT, LB. Social would be were a keyboard or Stick trigger would work at and Square/X acts as an action button for talk.
Or an easy way for the weapons and attacks. Square/X=Sword attacks, Triangle/Y=Gun attacks, O/B=Bombs and X/A could be a jump ability once again.

@darkness: Guns need aim.

@darkness:
Guns need aim. :D
I'm no console FPS player, I'm probably no good if they ask me to aim the cursor using the analog stick.

Also, you forgot the shield, it can be in place of your suggested jump.

Swiperthefox's picture
Swiperthefox
True.

But we have the right analog stick to control the aim with the gun. It's complicated so it'll indeed take time to figure the gunning part out. The shield could be R2/RT.

~~~
Even better: The triangle pulls out the gun, but the gun works like Commando if you've ever played it. Right analog stick aims and fires the gun at the same time, of course you can push any direction on it to just fire the amount's allotted before reload at your enemy's direction.
This might be a game where
This might be a game where console players might not have a huge disadvantage like in first person shooters. So I guess it could work out.
Problem ist, Microsoft is quite greedy when it comes to deliver content for Xbox games. Team Fortress 2 didn't get many updates at all because MS wanted them to cost something (hats? what hats?). On the other hand, they saw that F2P games are quite lucrative, and now they are thinking about introducing it. We will see...
A lot of us...
... already use console controllers with our PCs to play this game. If you aren't a gunner, the experience is is significantly better with a console pad imho. As to the main point of getting this to run on a console, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the fact that it's written in java make a port highly unlikely?
There are a few technological
There are a few technological issues with releasing SK on a console, but the biggest one is that the game was programmed in Java. To put the game on a console, OOO would have to completely rewrite the game in C++ or C#, which would take a long while.
There's also the issue with OOO having to start a contract with Microsoft and pay them to host the content (they'll probably lose money per download and only make it back if the person buys any energy), and as far as I know xbox live isn't set up in a way to make microtransactions (buying energy) work (xbox live only allows a single purchase per item, per account), which means OOO would also have to convince microsoft to change how xbox live works for one game.
It would be awesome if it did happen, but simply put, I don't think it will anytime soon.
What is feasible, however, is putting the game on an iPhone or android, but it'd be nearly impossible to play on something like that, if they can even handle it.
another issue is that between
another issue is that between the PS3 and the Xbox360 players cannot interact against/with each other. As neither of these support cross platform gameplay. This has and always will be a an issue. The only time this can be done is when the developers are testing it. You can find many articles about this online just google it. But this would present a huge issue with all the guilds and such as they would be split up. Friends would be seperated. OOO could and probably would lose players because of this. Yes they would gain those from the ps3 and xbox360 player base but would it be enough?
Simple answer is no. The
Simple answer is no.
The reason is that for an MMO game like this, the developer needs to constantly pushing out updates, new contents so the player base will keep playing. If the game is on console, every updates, new contents HAVE to go through the console maker for them to make sure the new updates won't break/breech their console. On the pc, when the developer wanna roll out an update/content, they just have to go through with their internal testing. Once that's done, everyone who plays the game will get the new content right away. But for the consoler, they have to wait for Sony/M$ to certify the patch first, THEN they will get it. Which means the developers either have to hold back the pc patch too if they want to synchronize the patch release date with the console side, or they can just release the pc patch right away, and watch the consolers QQ/moaring on the forum about when will they get their patch. Example: Test Drive Umlimited 2. The pc version got the dlc 3 months earlier than the console versions (the consoles still haven't got the new dlc as of yet).
Another factor that contribute why an MMO game such as this won't be on console, is that the console makers want the game developer to charge their customer for all the new DLC, which the console makers will get a big profit cut from the deal. This works ok with standalone games. Not MMO. Take a look at Team Fortress 2. Valve wants all their new stuffs free of charge, like on pc, while sony/M$ wants them to charge money for the dlc so they can get some profit from it. Valve refused, hence absolutely no updates whatsoever for both the ps3 and 360 version of TF2.
The last factor that why this game won't and never will be on consoles, are the micro transaction. For a free MMO, the only way it can makes money is micro transaction. If it's on console, due to the console makers want some cuts too, the console players either have to pay the extra on top of the profit that the developers want to make, or they can pay the same as the pc players, but the money the developers get will be reduced.
Factor all those in, and you get why free MMO developed by a third party (other than sony and m$) will never be made on console.
@ShadowSgt
@ShadowSgt - Well, on that issue they can choose to only implement it on one console and maintain cross-platform with the PC (this has been done for Portal 2 with PS3 and steam, for a notable recent example.) That barrier can be passed if they give up on one of the consoles, and if they moved their hosting servers to steam, they might be able to manage full cross-platform gameplay when/if steam comes to xbox live.
There's still all the other issues that've been mentioned, though.
@f0rtune - your first issue is a very critical one I should've thought of. If updates aren't synced perfectly, then they'd need to maintain extra servers for the people stuck behind, or they wouldn't be able to play at all once the earliest updating group have their patch released; or they'd have to maintain different servers for each console.
Bringing popular MMORPGs to
Bringing popular MMORPGs to consoles is an obvious thing to do. So one might pause to consider that it is almost never done. Phantasy Star Online made it to several consoles. Final Fantasy XI did have a PS2 version, in addition to the PC version.
And then what? Champions Online was coming to XBox 360, and then suddenly it wasn't. Cryptic just couldn't do it, so they gave up. DC Universe Online did launch for PlayStation 3, but Sony owns both the game and the console, which gave the console division incentives not to be as intransigent as they might otherwise be. Final Fantasy XIV was announced for PS3, and nearly a year after the PC version launched, the PS3 version still isn't out. And Square-Enix already did FFXI for PS2, so if anyone can make an MMORPG work on a console, you'd think it would be them.
There are some problems intrinsic to consoles. One is that they're vastly less flexible than PCs. When designing a game for PC, companies can do basically whatever they want. Console manufacturers greatly limit what you can do on consoles. So if a bug that makes spending CE update your CE total client-side but not server-side accidentally slips into a patch, in a PC version, you can take the servers down to fix the bug that day and Microsoft doesn't care. In a console version, you've got big problems.
There's also the issue of the business model. For a PC, Microsoft, Intel, AMD, Asus, Gigabyte, Western Digital, Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, and whoever else get your money when you build the computer. They don't particularly care what you do with it after the fact, so long as you don't go out of your way to fry something and then expect warranty service. Consoles, on the other hand, sell at a loss, with the console manufacturers expecting to make it up by taking a cut of every game sold. That means that whatever business model you have has to be agreed to by the console manufacturer, and they don't necessarily look kindly upon innovative business models that make them worry that they won't get paid.
Finally, why do you want to play the game on a console, anyway? If you want to use a gamepad, then get a gamepad. Spiral Knights is very gamepad-friendly, to the degree that for combat, it works better than keyboard+mouse. That's unusual for PC games.
Let's also give Three Rings credit for making their game available on more platforms than most. In addition to Windows, the game also runs natively on Mac and Linux. Not many PC games can say that. If you want to complain about games being available on too few platforms, then Three Rings is the wrong company to complain to.
Maybe on the Android, but not iOS. The ToS for App Store don't allow any self-updating apps. So that would mean if new content for SK should come out, Apple needs to review the update and this could take time.
