Need better damage indicator! Painting edges of the screen when knight gets damaged instead of "blinking" knight, for example

Just as the name says, I'd prefer to have edges of the screen painted with damage type received (several separate layers if receiving several types of damage.
Blinking knight is hard to notice in a crowd unless I'm looking at the knight. Thus I miss the point where I get damaged (thanks to lag I can get damaged by melee monster across the map).

Also, blinking knight is very very misleading. In most arcade games when you receive damage and start blinking it means you're invincible for a second or so. In Spiral Knights it means you've been damaged and you can still take damage.

Basically, I want better damage indicator. In worst case scenario add a sound when knight gets damaged. "Ouch" will do.

A sound IS played when you

A sound IS played when you get damaged(but the "ouch" could be more comical)
Also, are you sure that you can get damage when blinkin? If that's true, then every time i fall into a spike trap i'd be dead because of constant damage.

While your Knight is blinking it is invincible and can not be damaged. However, if you get damaged the instance your invincibility frame ends it will look like you still took damage while blinking, which is what I think has you confused.

If you can't notice that your Knight is being damaged then you simply have to pay attention some instead of requesting a change. Saying that you didn't see your character take damage is one of the poorest excuses you can make due to the blinking effect, the sound effect and the pips of life being scattered from your knight, which is in the center of the screen and usually the one you're always looking at.

Oh dude I know rite

I like Sonic but there needs to be a better indicator of damage than Sonic blinking and a sound playing and all your rings flying out. If you weren't looking at Sonic when he got hit then you might not realise that you've been hit.

Diablo's pretty good but it's hard to tell when my character's injured because there's no indicator other than my HP dropping and a sound effect and an animation but you could miss all those in a crowd if you weren't looking at your guy or health meter.

Man it's hard to tell when you've taken a hit in Mortal Kombat because all that happens is the character grunts and his health bar goes down and some blood comes out and sometimes his head explodes but anyway you might not see any of that if you weren't really paying attention to what was actually happening on screen.

ARE YOU %&^*ING KIDDING ME

Diablo is actually a pretty

Diablo is actually a pretty good example of not enough indication your character is getting hurt. :D
Not to mention its life orb, the only idea you will ever have of your character getting hurt, is on the lower left, far from the center. So it doesn't matter if you were looking at your character in Diablo.

Anyway, the reason why FPS have to resort to the screen flashing red, or turning monochrome, is precisely because you can't see your character.
Back to SK... I suppose the blinking, the bars flying out of your character isn't enough?

TLDR: I like it fine the way it is.
