Do shields have level cap or something?

Example:

I own a Volcanic Plate Shield. We all know it's Normal Defense goes all the way up (i think it's maximum.) Now I've had on it a Normal Defense: High UV.

Does it make a difference? Should I roll for another UV? I mean, the damn shield's Norm DEF is already insanely high. Or does it have a level cap so no matter how I get like a Max Norm DEF the UV is just useless?

Its hard to measure shield

Its hard to measure shield defense, 'cause they don't have much in the way of a health bar - they change colour, then break, but all you can see is how many hits it takes to change, which can vary between colours because a hit might drive it halfway through to the next or your shield might regen a little...

To find out if the normal defense is actually helping, you'd have to run damage tests alongside somebody with a non-UV shield, and even then it'd probably be inconclusive.

Of course, normal damage is pretty uncommon in tier 3 anyways - only dealt by retrodes, non-status scuttlebots and gremlin thwackers/bombers, maybe some of Vanadke's damage? Maybe a couple more (just remembered blast cubes, non-status lichen), but not a lot. You might want to try for a different defense UV anyways just to get something more generally useful like elemental, fire or shock defense.

I assume you will get better

I assume you will get better results from a defense your shield doesn't already have, or has in low amounts, for attack types you want to block with that shield, that do high amounts of damage per blow. Normal makes you tougher against those hits, but perhaps you already have so much defense the monsters can't match it so you are getting diminishing returns. On the other hand a lot of attacks are mixed damage with normal so having normal defense is always good. Also the more defense despite having already high def makes your shield takes less damage which means it regenerates "faster". Just dodge more the pure typed shadow/piercing/elemental hits.

also a high uv is quite rare, hell even medium is not worth to reroll, you may roll another uv but on ANOTHER shield, leave that one with that uv :P

Vanaduke is all about Normal damage, along with effects I think (fire/stun).

And all the monsters of tier3 do a portion of Normal damage. Wiki is wrong about that.
Check the "bars" that fall on the floor when you get hit in tier3. There is always a small amount of red bars, which means Normal damage.

ps Nice UV Eggboy! =D

Tree-Guys buggy?

It's written at the [?] that T3 mobs deal just one type of damage, but the Tree like machines deal with their swing 50% elementary and 50% normal... in T3 o.O buggy?
