Sup guys. I've recently gotten into tier3 and made a couple of trips down to the core with a buddy of mine but; i guess foolishly when i was but a lil knight i only have two ELEMENTAL weapons (blizzbrand and gigawatt pulsar) i love both of these and would prefer not to swap either out but its obviously a setup thats very lacking in certain situations.

So ive decided ill more than likely get a third weapon slot and fill that with either a piercing or shadow weapon (probably a gun, feels more versatile) this makes sure im at least getting neutral vs 2 types and strong vs 4 - the important areas to me seem to be danger rooms (slimes, gremlins, wolvers) and FSC (felt especially useless in a gremlin danger room, lol)

ive just no idea which damage type would be more beneficial on the whole, nor which weapon.. so much to choose from : d so, to couple with elemental: shadow or piercing? and which weapon (or even weapon type)?

thoughts?

Go for a piercing sword; I

Go for a piercing sword; I run a thorn blade with my gigawatt pulsar and it eats up everything the pulsar's bad against. You've probably already experienced firsthand how good the pulsar can be as a gun.

First of all, for FSC you

First of all, for FSC you ONLY want elemental weapons, since most enemies there are weak to them and all are at least neutral.

As for the new damage type, I'd definitely go for a shadow weapon :D this is because gremlins and jelly palace have always seemed to me like bigger threats than beasts. I've also found that the piercing weakness of fiends is only a very minor weakness and that my elemental weapons do nearly the same damage as my flourish :S

Personally I find most guns are lacking a lot in damage though... the pulsars being the exception. Go shadow sword if you want best results vs those gremlins :D

As for which shadow sword, Faust all the way :D (though being a heavy-sword user I am a bit biast) heavy swords do take some gettting used to though to be effective with them and Acheron may be better for those who only use the faster *cough* crap *cough* swords :P

Yeh ive pretty much got it

Yeh ive pretty much got it down to either biohazard (not getting an acheron as its two similar to my blizzbrand for my tastes) if i go shadow or thorn blade/dark briar barrage for piercing..how do those hold up vs the swarms of gremlins you sometimes get (menders especially)? My pulsar is sick yeh, almost too good in graveyards : D does it change much at 5*?

The thorn blade is not bad

The thorn blade is not bad against gremlins, even menders, especially if you use the charge wisely.

Gran faust destroys gremlins

The reason I first got gran faust was because I saw a friend obliterate a deconstruction zone barely getting hit before I'd even killed off a few with my flourish blade (used to be my primary weapon)

I'm forever glad of the change, the knockback on gremlins means they'll never hit you once you get proficient with the blade and with a elite slash module I can kill any gremlin in a single combo as far down as the first few levels of tier 3 :D On top of that it can own an entire crowd at once due to its large sweeps.

I honestly don't get what all the fuss is about with piercing blades.... I used to use one, then i realised how bad they are... sure they good against beasts but not really anything else, I can kill fiends quicker with my DA tha my final flourish :P it also gives much more control and doesn't launch you all over the place with its attacks :D

*EDIT* not getting Acheron because its similar to a weapon you already have that deals a DIFFERENT damage type might not be as smart as you think it is.... you would probably find yourself a much better fighter from using several swords with similar attack patterns, I got fingers crossed atm for a heavy piercing sword but i'm not sure thats all too likely :P

*EDIT 2* If you do want a biohazard I've got the 4* version I no longer use and could sell to you

Actually get 1 weapon of each

Actually get 1 weapon of each type. Elemental is always useful because you are almost guaranteed to run into turrets or lumbers, with the chance of getting into a graveyard or arena (and in here you are sure to run into mecha knights).

For your backup weapon, you would usually use the piercing one, and switch to shadow when it's a slime or gremlin stratum.

EDIT: If you have 3 weapons elements won't be a problem, though you might also consider using the third slot for a backup/utilitiy weapon, like a normal damage gun or freeze bomb as a swordie. 4 weapons upgrade is very expensive per month at 250x2 CE but you might find it very useful to have 3 elements + backup weapon.

Pulsar is excellent at 5*

My pulsar is sick yeh, almost too good in graveyards : D does it change much at 5*?

It gets even better. You can solo tier 3 graveyards without the need to swing a sword like DA (Divine Avenger). The knockback can push away phantoms at a safe distance. It is also excellent versus constructs like gun puppies and it is starting to become the gun of choice for FSC. Although there are some players that would kick you from a party if you are holding one :P

People don't kick you from a

People don't kick you from a party for holding one, they kick you for using it too much and at the wrong times, it can get very annoying for team-mates. I just experienced a roarmulus run where two of the other players had a gigawatt pulsar and just spam-used it all the time, the quicksilvers had a field day and gremlins were taking FOREVER to kill :P not to mention switches kept being hit by the expanded shots being badly aimed.... if it was my party, they would have been kicked, as it happened i went solo :P

ps. Shadow is still the best compliment to elemental, the piercing wep attack pattern launches you everywhere almost uncontrolably, you'll find yourself hitting stuff less and having much less crowd control-ability :P

Alright so i've decided that

Alright so i've decided that while it'd be fun to have an umbra driver or a biohazard (and perhaps a little more safe) i'd be better off going with a sword then picking up one of the guns later on for fun; now it's just between acheron and faust (i also now have both 4* wolver pieces + barb shield 4*, really tempted to go skolver + dual ASI trinkets :D)

I know a lot of people use the faust line, but does anyone here have any idea how it stacks up vs acheron? if my blizzbrand is anything to go by the charge attack should be an absolute beast vs jellies and gremlins alike (also one more question, is the double explosion guaranteed on 5* brandishes?)
