Do bonuses stack? For instance I bought a recipe for a demo helmet and chest that both reduce the charge time for bombs. So if I had both would it be reduced more than if it was only one? Or are these kind of bonuses only limited to 1?
Question regarding bonuses stacking
Ok thanks. Guess that saves me the 100 energy to make one of the equipment.
Krys isn't right. Bonuses from gear do stack.
If you want to check out the way I did it, here's how:
I used my Level 10 Khorovod for this test, attacking skeletons on depth 19 in Silver Phantom, once with two slash modules on and once with only one. No other Sword damage gear was used.
The first run, using two slash modules, who have the same Sword DMG+: Low attribute, hit for 146 on the first swing.
The second run, using only one slash module, hit only for 132.
The reason Krys probably didn't notice a difference with charge times is that the boost is % based, so the more of the same type you have, the less bonus you get, or seem to get (especially with charge times). With damage bonuses though, the increase is substantial.
Something like charge times can't be tested easily; next time try something with raw numbers you can see =)
I didn't test attack damage bonuses, only attack-speed and charge-times. Thanks for the clarification though.
There could be the possibility that you're both right. Perhaps some effects can stack and others can't.
I have stacked reduced gun charge time. And noticed a noticeable difference with each stack.
Thing is, there are probably diminishing returns for attack speed and charge time. (and the increasing returns for damage maybe)
For anyone who is not familiar with the concept it goes, example:
fist stack: -20%
second -20% of 80%, so -16%
third -20% of 64%, so -12%
Etc
I tested this with Krys before the release on 10/28. Before this release we concluded that neither sword attack speed nor charge time reduction bonuses. Post release on 10/28, I was testing my swiftbuckler shield along with drake scale mail and it was noticeably faster. Not too sure of this though, so further testing will be done when Krys and I have the chance to.
If the bonuses didn't stack, the Demo gear would be pretty useless once you get your bomb to max level.
Bonuses do indeed stack. Working out a way to make this a little more clear right now actually.
Bonuses do stack. To test this out I had my Khorovod and went into the party lobby area.
Without any attack speed increase gear other than Khorovod's, attack from one end before the elevator, to the other, left to right.
Then I tried this again with Drake Scale pieces, Swiftstrike Buckler, and a couple of Quick Strike Trinkets.
The time it took to go from one end to the other was significantly shorter. I also did it without the trinkets and without the shield and got somewhere in between. The swing itself doesn't become faster, but the time between swings gets shorter.
You can test this out another way. Click once to do a 1 hit attack, and check how long it takes before you can do a 1 hit attack again, if you click too quickly and go into your 2nd combo hit then you're delay between 2 swings is longer. Put on all your speed increasing gear and you can find out you can do that 1 hit animation, and then do it again without going into your 2nd combo hit. Of course this means attacking sooner with your 2nd hit.. which isn't always ideal.
Drake Set + Swiftstrike Buckler + Khorovod speed increase = enough speed so that the first strike pushes back your enemy, but the enemy doesn't recover fast enough to move towards your 2nd strike, which means you miss, unless of course you target something else. If you wait for your enemy to recover and move toward you after the 1st strike, the short delay between combo swings would've reset, making you do the initial swing again, instead of the last.
This is post-rebalance patch so I don't know if things changed. However I have a question regarding trinkets. I had 1 attack bonus: low trinket. I did around 260 damage first hit and 320 second hit to Gray Wolves. Then I added a second attack bonus: low trinket and I still only do around 260 first hit 320 second. Do trinket bonuses not stack?
Just to add to the discussion: is there any further bonus for wearing matched sets (or quasi-sets) of armor? I realize that the last update seems bound and determined to move us *away* from using matched sets of armor (in order to instead focus on a diverse range of protection types), but the following observation seemed to contradict that:
Wearing just virulisk armor (4*, slime damage bonus: moderate), my vile striker does 50-100 damage per hit to a rock jelly. Add in a chromalisk helm (3*, slime damage bonus: moderate), and that goes up to 250 per swing (or 500 per swing of the charged attack, for up to 2500 damage). That's on the order of a 5x damage multiplier from adding in a second "moderate" damage bonus, which seems a little high.
Incidentally, my shield was a swiftstrike buckler, so the "set" I'm referring to is only a helm+armor from the same line.
Not that I'm complaining, mind you... I'd just like to know whether it's worth it to wear matched sets. :)
The bonus-damage-vs-type bonuses seem to do a lot more than they used to. And attack bonuses from trinkets do stack, or at least they did last time I tested, a few updates ago - and bonuses stack on total damage, not base damage. So two damage bonus items will give more than twice the bonus of one item.
I tested this with a friend. I had the Heavy Demo set on with 3x charge-time reduction bonuses from the set and the bomb itself, whereas he only had a single bonus off of his bomb. There was no difference in our charge times.
Testing this even further, we came to the conclusion that sword attack-speed bonuses do not stack either. Not sure if this was intentional or not, but I submitted it in as a bug report because I think it's unfair to buy a set of gear for its bonuses, only to have one of them applied and the rest do nothing.
