Currently, I have the Ash Tail set, a boosted plate shield (3*) and I am planning to upgrade my ash tail to Vog, so I was wondering which path i should take for my plate shield. From what I understand, with the Vog cub i have fire and elemental defense, and I would strengthen that with the volcanic plate shield. However, it seems that the volcanic plate shield would be use for FSC and other fire/elemental strata that I go into. However, since I always have the elemental and fire resistance from the vog, I would want to cover as many bases as i can, so I might go with the Ironmight with the piercing defense. Anyway, everyone says that Volcanic is better. So which one should i choose? Thanks for the input.

Since having multiple sets of armor and shields is quite expensive, you will need to go with what you have. It's proably better to say "I wanna run FSC repeatedly" and have the best gear for that specific area.

i have a horned owlite shield
i have a horned owlite shield shadow low, so would that be enough? or should i look for a max shadow on the AH? Anyway thanks for the tips guys.

I really hate it when people
I really hate it when people say "get a set for every occasion" ...I mean, yes that works. But do you know how expensive and unnecessary it is? I wear Vog everywhere and and bring my Barb shield to FSC (it has fire resist UV) and I still die less than people using Grey Owlite with their Vog. Just play SMART and you won't be dying at all, period.
Now with that said, it seems you plan on doing FSC mostly right? Then go with the Volcanic Plate Shield and Vog Set. Simple as that.
I say this because nothing should really be breaking your shield anyways.. unless you're cornered or bad at dodging. Jellies are fat and slow so avoiding their attacks isn't a problem. Alpha wolvers.. why would you try to even block their attacks anyways? You should be running like hell and attacking with your charge attack man! Giant Lichen Colonies should be handled with care, don't even bothering trying to trade blows with them. Strafe, charge, attack, and repeat.

Skelly Shield for fiend levels.
Grey Owlite for everywhere else.
Get an owlite with max shadow and you can ditch the skelly ;)
Could I be more generic?
"Cover[ing] as many bases as [you] can" simply leads to deficiencies everywhere. You are better off having multiple sets of armour and shields and swap as necessary.
