Ive talked about this with some mates before just want to get a few more opinions. On a vog coat, how much difference would max shadow make to how much damage i take? Also, i know stun is useful on vana, but how long does stun last from vanadukes mace? I think the debris is 3 seconds.

edit: any idea if the tiny bit of extra elemental on an owlite (med uv) would do anything lol?

IIRC you can only calculate

IIRC you can only calculate it with percentage. For example if max shadow is 100% higher than the shadow resist you had before ,then you will receive 50% of the shadow damage you received before

I haven't seen anyone put up actual numbers that let you come close to calculating damage. As Joshuan90 pointed out, your simplistic formula fails when you start with zero defense. It also doesn't explain any nerfing due to higher star armor in lower tiers, if it really was doubling the armor cutting damage in half, 5* armor would make you almost a brick wall in the first stratum.

The closest i've seen to any actual study was one where people were really testing trinkets. IIRC, for piercing damage, full vog vs full skolver only cut the damage in half. Studying damage is hard because it is hard to control what damage monsters do to you, the number of damage bars that fall off you is rounding to the nearest 1/4 health bar, and the health bars are displayed rounded to the nearest 1/2 bar.

More defense helps. How much is up to a lot of debate. I've heard people claim that even a small amount of defense helps a lot and I've heard people claim that even large amounts doesn't matter. We don't know if there is a point of diminishing returns, or if it is linear, or if it is like weapons where it depends on the level you are on and the maximum effectiveness peaks at some level in the clockworks.
