A rather small suggestion, brought to my attention semi humorously...for me anyway. I invited my brother to start playing Spiral Knights the other day. I was speaking to him over vent and I completely spaced telling him that he should turn off the "grouping" options for the training level, which from recollection, I'm not even sure you can do. He wasted almost an hour in that training dungeon. Though the other group members did seem to be having fun firing there guns into space. Though he has changed his mind, he wasn't very wowed with the game at that very crucial point.

Tehehehe

Pretty sure the reason that particular thing is in place is to encourage people to play together, as that's the point of any MMO. I remember going down that place for the second time. Spent a good two minutes coaxing me fellow dungeoneers onto the elevator -.-". I think an easier escape button would be better, just so you can click out of a dungeon if you're in a fix. Replacements pop up faster than the eye can blink anyways, so easy exits can't be abused to hurt those who stay behind.

Your right it wouldn't

I absolutely agree with you that solo play is not as exciting as group play. My suggestion is more for curbing frustration. When I ran through the tutorial level, I did it solo. I completed it in about 5-10 minutes, learned everything the tutorial was teaching and then started grouping in the Haven Arcade with more experienced players. My brothers experience was much different. He grouped through the tutorial, completed it in about 40-60 minutes, and got pretty frustrated as the new players did not step on buttons, ran into corners for minutes straight, and shot weapons at air.

Grouping can be a mixed bag, sometimes I get great groups, sometimes bad. It's been about 50/50 in my experience, I would think the developers would want gamer's first impressions of their game to rely more on a percentage, especially in a world with so many great games to play. You raise a good point that excitement is just as important and maybe even a little more, but I don't think your going to find this in the tutorial. Heck 9 out of 10 times, I'll even skip tutorials if the game gives me the option.

I'm defintely going as far as to say take out group play from the tutorial, just make it more obvious that solo play is an option from the very beginning.

Btw, when I say "tutorial" I'm talking about that last dungeon you have to do to get out of the rescue camp.
