u mean an arena based pvp

u mean an arena based pvp with equipment like that you take into the clockworks? OOO tried that so ive heard during the preview event with bad results

the problem is with the equipment itself... with what we can obtain now, a few select items would dominate the this type of pvp and it wouldnt be fair to players

now if they made arena calibrated arsenal of weapons and armor i wouldnt mind

Monkeyman didn't say anything about King Kogmo. He already explained how ordinary knights vs knights didn't work out in the preview of the game. People with the wrong equipment get bowled over. What he also said, which I agree with, is having a special set of equipment choices available for PvP that allows everything to be skill-based alone.

In the beta pvp, it was people in vog cub with gran fausts all one shotting each other.

The problem with PvP

The problem with PvP swordfights - bearing in mind that I wasn't involved in the preview - seems that it'd be extremely limited and repetitive, even with dedicated PvP-only equipment loadouts. SK's PvE combat relies heavily on pattern recognition and responding to telegraphed attacks. I can see PvP swordfights rapidly devolving into two guys whacking each others' shields until one of them breaks, at which point the unshielded player spends a few seconds running away (pursued fruitlessly by his opponent, hampered by their movement speed being exactly the same).

What about Counter-Operative gameplay?

What about Counter-Operative gameplay? Where one team of players controls enemy monsters (with no way for the Spiral Knight team to tell which enemies are human-controlled and which are CPU)

Not sure what the scoring system / # lives should be, but I think Counter-Operative would be fun! :P

actually king krogmo is the "king" of PvP ad you noticed theres a locked game calle lockdown? well many games of Pvp are stil coming up i dont know why people just keep saying this about swordfights...... THEY WILL COME JUST WAIT!!!!!

You do realize nick has said there will be swords in lockdown right? Well, he said he liked stabbing people, but close enough. I doubt he's reffering to spikes. Before that was said though, this was a semi-valid argument. Keosermer hit the nail on the head. Nick said there was a recon class among others.

I'd rather see fixed existing game than 10 thousand more broken pieces.
The only way Spiral Knights can be considered to have more or less "fair" PvP system is only if it goes turn-based.

Latency

One problem I foresee (which is even more of a problem with gun fights) is latency. It is already a minor issue with bombs.
While waiting for a lift to change, my friend was continually shooting me while I was running around them. To her, it looked like every bullet hit me, to me, they missed by miles.
While just running around, to each of us, we both look like we are in front of the other person. The game has a major problem of showing people where they were on the server for you, and showing you were you are on your comp.
Swords and guns are too instantaneous. To attack someone you need to predict where they will be and attack there. With bombs, we are used to planting them and then waiting for things to walk into the path and have things miss, not so much with guns. Typically, with almost every shooting game, we shoot something, it gets hit, when we shoot at where we see it. This is not the case with SK.
You will also have a massive advantage if you are "closer" to the servers. People in America with low latency will be able to attack people in Europe and Australia and elsewhere with ease.
The scoreboard will be dominated by people in the US, unless they limit the fights to people with similar latencies, in which case you will have people in the US actually have decent fights (assuming they don't just run and shield etc) and the crappy fights where people keep running after someone then attacking where they were a second ago then getting stabbed by someone who is no where near them, etc.
The only reason we can kill monsters, is because they are stupid.

If they want to have decent PvP with guns and swords, they will need to fix their fighting system, or get more servers around the globe and limit the fights to people near those servers.

teos_ef, I dislike turn based things and think they are unfair. The person who goes first typically gets an advantage or disadvantage depending on the game. Consider chess, the person who goes first gets a chance to attack on the second go, the game is not the same if you switch positions.
What I think they should have is a "plan and execute" style game, where you have a set amount of time to plan everything, and then after everyone has planned or the timer expires, the game does what they have planned. This has the problem of going to attack someone only to have them move, however it is the only fair way (other than RT which wont be happening on SK).

Let's see how lockdown plays out before we start suggesting things.
Though I'd find a plan and execute game kinda fun. Prehaps you get to wire specific knightbot commands? Not like rock-paper-cissors, more of a If-Then semi-programing style game. Anyone played com bots?

But hey, it can't be worse than Blast network. The square arrangement meant that people will whine about being caught on corners, but hopefully Lockdown will be just like the clockworks. More wide spaces, less omg i just lagged into the same wall for 5 seconds...

As I said before

Valkyrie, guns will be useless to all bar Americans. By the time you shoot someone and the bullet reaches them, they will be long gone. You will need to predict where they will be, which will be hard due to variable amounts of lag.
You will have people in the US being able to shoot everyone else, while never getting hit themselves. Swords have a similar problem. PvP with attacks like that will not work on Spiral Knights.
OOO will need to revamp the game so lag is not an issue.
