New Turrets Question

I'm sure this has been asked but I couldn't find it, so if it's somewhere else please redirect me.
Do the new turrets explode causing damage upon defeat? I just started a run and I saw 2 of the new turrets (not sure which kind) and when I killed each of them, they caused some damage.
If that's the case, isn't it a blow to only sword users? Not having the ability to defeat an enemy without taking damage is...very rough, to say the least. But I'm not entirely sure how they work yet so I'll save that for later and not judge
You most likely saw the Howlitzer or however you spell it, but when you kill the Howlitzer it'll shoot itself as a last resort to kill you.
Yes it kind of is a blow to sword uses IF you attack the Howlitzer face to face, oh and you can also shield bump the missles

Yep I saw that
Do Howlitzers not drop anything unless you kill the head? You'd be forced to shield it and have it explode on you for any crowns/heat if that's the case. I was just in an arena with 4 of them and when I killed them they flew after me but none of them left anything behind O_O
You just gotta be careful and make sure you dont swing an extra time, as when it dies its head appears and can be blown up by hitting it. Best way i found was to just shield after the last hit and bump it away..they're a pain though still, but a nice change of pace i guess. The polyps can be annoying too cus youve no idea which way they're facing (or at least i cant tell)

Yep I've noticed that.
The Jelly Turrets are ridiculous. Way overpowered compared to the rest of them in my opinion. I've never struggled with turrets. Then those came. Destroyed me so bad

Couldnt play since they're up :3 but it looks like it becomes much fun :D xD hahaha

They arent that bad... Though i hate how my polaris is less useful to complement a bomber playstyle now.... Its still usful for swords and full gunner however

If the skull turret is weak against piercing and deals shadow damage, and the slime turret is weak against shadow and deals piercing, then this is one small step for mankind and one big step to nerfing the dominant elemental defense gear.
Is it?

I guess so. So immediantely all that "ooh owlite, voc cup" guys get pwned :D I like XD

Its just sad that you see Voc Cubs and Voc Cubs in costumes ... It's awfulthat all other armors are random ...
Howlitzers behave like Undead turrets, with regards to weaknesses/resistances. That'd be Elemental weakness and Shadow resistance. When you kill them, they leave their skull floating around and it tracks you in a manner similar to the homing missiles from Rocket Puppies (though slower), including it detonating after a certain period of time and the explosion affecting other foes, along with the indicator to show which player it's tracking. However, it can be bumped back with your shield, detonated prematurely with a weapon impact, and won't detonate on contact with an enemy, only players. You do have to be cautious when attacking with a sword, you can easily get overzealous and kill the Howlitzer and immediately hit the skull and cause it to detonate.
With regards to Polyps, they are like slimes with regards to weaknesses/resistances (predictably), and deal piercing damage. Other than that, they pretty much seem to behave like regular Gun Puppies, except for the better field of view.

I haven't the chance to check now so can someone enlighten me to the following questions?
Polyps: in the Royal Jelly Stratum?
Howlitzers: in the Firestorm Citadel?
I can't speak for Howlitzers in the Firestorm Citadel, but Polyps don't show up in the Royal Jelly Palace. Or, if they do, it's only by random chance and is uncommon.
i saw 2 polips in the level before the first RJP level.
i saw tons of howlitezrs the 3 levels before the terminal
I haven't made a *full* run of FSC since the update, but as far as I've seen, Howlitzers are absent from the latter half of FSC. Fire puppies are evidently still ruling that roost.
Did a couple full fsc runs yesterday and saw the same turrets as before. Just that single rocket puppy and red rovers, no sign of the new guys.

@SuperMallow
They drop randomly just like everything else. I Calibur charge, then back off out of head suicide range without engaging (letting the head blow on its own) & I sometimes received useful drops like grave soil. No idea however if attacking the heads offers an extra chance at drop, but I doubt it because either way they blow up.
Also, no problem to sword the undead turrets once you realize that you need to back-peddle quickly after attacking.
I saw both in the silver queen gate, tier 1.
