You know, Spiral Knights has a lot of quirks to work out, like how little variety is allowed for players in choosing what gear to use out of hundreds of possible options, and, of course, the energy market. But one thing people don't really talk about is the whole story of the game. At the start of the game, the main idea is that the Spiral Knights' ship, the Skylark, crash-landed on a planet called the Cradle. At the core of the planet is a massive energy source that, if the energy can be harnessed, the knights might be able to use it to recalibrate the Skylark and escape the planet. And little has changed since.

There are many undeveloped traits and possibilities within Spiral Knights that suggest a larger storyline. The Alpha Squad. The Core. Gremlins. King Tinkinzar, for that matter. The kingdom of Almire, supposedly the only "real", non-gremlin built part of the Clockworks. But gradually, players have began to take for granted that little will change in SK in terms of story. But there are so many many unresolved issues within the game. When you think about King Tinkinzar, is Vanaduke even the final boss? Just how the heck did the Alpha Squad get swallowed by the core? Who exactly are the strangers? Does OOO plan on making an Spiral Knights 2? (As if.)

So if you have an opinion on this, post away! Even if the devs probably don't read this, it's worth stating your ideas for something that could/should change in SK (related the plot, please).

I think as they intend to

I think as they intend to extend the gameplay, one of the things they'll have to do at some point or another is open the core for players to access. Perhaps another Rescue Camp to Haven thing - it's a one-way trip. Of course, you'd still interact with previous world, just not be there. The Advanced Training hall would have stuff for the starting gameplay of the Core, not of Haven, but the Auction House would still be accessable, although perhaps Core items could be hidden from anyone who hasn't accessed the core, encouraging exploration? Guild Halls would, for the sake of communication, be unaffected, and you could freely see and talk to those who haven't gone down. Maybe a hologram effect to whomever is not at where you are, like with Snarby on the Barbarous Thorn Blade?

Once they open up the core, more story will go with it. They'll have to explain a lot to open up the core, and with that comes not only explanations, but also new lore. Perhaps what Vanaduke encountered was something from within the Core, something that escaped, bringing with it unspeakable evil and corrupting those who even dare to look at it.

Who knows? It'll be done eventually, just not yet.

I like your idea for the core, but what annoys me is how SK has done pretty much nothing in the way of plot development since the start of the game.

A lot of open MMOs are like

A lot of open MMOs are like that. Major story development usually results in some twist or event that changes the context everything else around it, and that doesn't quite work well unless you make a linear story line.

The only game I've seen that managed to work with it is Guildwars (never played WoW). But the plot missions get boring once you've played them a few times.... and know where everything is, and whats gonna happen, and who dies.

I love the idea

maybe the core items are superb. like max everything, and they are stripped of color, so if you are purely white, you have been to the core. and doing 250 damage in tier 1 would not be a bad idea.

Idea for the Core Boss
The Alpha Squad were destroyed, but a being from the core (Grandfather Gremlin) tinkered with thier corpses, and made a brute with 4 arms wielding a giant sword and tower shield.

OOO has developed the plot a

OOO has developed the plot a little bit.

- We crash landed on the planet and sent out parties to survey the local wildlife. The Gremlins saw that we were here and came up with a plan to drive us from Haven. But, We found out about the Gremlins plans and pre-empted their counterattack with an attack of our own. Unfortunately, they appear to crank out turrets as fast as we can shut them down...

- The clockworks are built like a giant trap. There are several recon modules that indicate this.

- The undead levels, the dark city levels, and the back story on Firestorm Citadel indicates that there were civilizations living on Cradle before we landed there. What happened to those civilizations? I don't know.

In any case, I expect we'll get more answers as we get more updates.

How sneaky!

Nick has previously stated that OOO has big plans for the core and other plot-related content but that they are going to tease us by giving us little tidbits of information here and there (see Recon Modules).

So expect the story-line to be fleshed out in the future!

It was pointed out somewhere

It was pointed out somewhere that Cradle is constructed from "salvaged planets". Theres no telling what or even if anything is actually native to Cradle. Even the gremlins are assumed to have come from someplace else.

@milkman97: Really? Nick said that? That's something then, I'm glad to hear there will be plot changes in the future.
