Sword reach?

I have been putting off upgrading my Ascended Calibur L10 to a Levianthan L1 because it appears I would be actually nerfing my blade until I can get it heated back up to L10 at which point it would hit for a few extra damage (203 vs 182 at strata 6, wiki data).

Is there any other advantage to upgrade to Levi over the Ascended Cal? like the reach of the swing? I know the model is bigger, but is that more then cosmetic?

Also, does anybody have any experience with the reach differences in reach between the Troika lines and the Sealed Sword lines? Troika looks longer, but again does this translate?

I would be very curious to know Levi vs Suduaruska/Triglav vs DA/GF what the pecking order is for greatest reach (or if they are all the same).

Thanks

DA and et al. has a greater

DA and et al. has a greater reach.

if you don't plan on going to the last stratum much, you can hold off on upgrading. if you have damage mods, it might be worth it.

Thanks for all the feeback. I

Thanks for all the feeback.

I run an Elite Slash Module & an Elite Sword Focus module w/ my Ash Tail Set giving my AscCal Dam VH & CTR VH. Probably wont do much T3 until I can upgrade to Vog though (had my butt handed to me in a T3 fire arena on my first T3 descent, solo).

@john111: So you are saying that the Levi has a real reach advantage over the AscCal, but that there is no difference in reach between the big swords (Levi, Sud/Trig, and DA/FA)?

I had a levi, well still do,

I had a levi, well still do, but am using a soon to be better ascended calibur, I felt I had less reach, but maybe it was the model. The charge definitely felt to be smaller in radius. But again could be the animation :P I am not sure how this could be tested.

@gia257 If you have both, I

@gia257

If you have both, I guess the easiest way to test this is to go to the advanced training hall and find an exploding block. For both swords (and their charge attack) find the closest range to the block you can swing without setting it off.

Report back the results.

@Trias Good idea, though it

@Trias

Good idea, though it is very open to user error & may be a coarse a measurement, I think that could give a rough idea. Comparing charge attacks would be a bit more tricky. In the case of the Calibur line there is a step forward with the charge attack, so to measure sword reach you would need to stand perpendicular to the block and exactly one step behind it so that you end up next to the block following the swing. Charge attack reach for the other big swords is a pretty obvious order: Levi < Sud/Trig < DA/GF.

I'll take my AscCal & Troika to the ATH next time I am on and see what I get for first hit reach. Though I am pretty sure based on the subjective feel of the two blades that the Troika line has a significant reach advantage over the sub-Levi Caliburs at least. If somebody could test Levi vs DA or GF at the ATH that would be great (or Levi vs Sud/Trig or Sud/Trig vs DA/GF).

Ok, Ascended Calibur vs

Ok, Ascended Calibur vs Troika. Troika defiantly has more reach (no shocker). In the ATH the Troika will hit a timed exploding block from about 1/2 a floor tile further away then my AscCal will reach. Doesn't really tell me anything that I didn't already know, but I think the test is sound to use on the other swords in question. Equip both, slowly back up from the block while testing to see if Hit1 will reach. Once you fine tune the maximum hit distance for one sword, switch to the other without moving and see it hit hits too. If so slowly back off until finding the second swords maximum hit and double check to make sure the first sword still will not hit. I think head to head comparison is the only way to go, because there is too much room for error just counting floor tiles.
