On a serious note, I like the willy wonka idea. Perhaps accessing the Core is the next set of levels, then completing those levels lets you access an elevator that would be marked "Straight up" or something?
That'd also allow them to make the Core accessable and give them more room for players to look forward to - The Alpha Squad going in that elevator, but it broke, and they need resources and power to fix it.
