Doing Vanaduke runs and I am wondering which of these I should buy once I receive enough tokens.
I'm using a Grey Owlite Shield and Divine Avenger.
Any input that will persuade my decision is appreciated.

FOV sets you on fire.
FOV can only set you on fire if you use the charged attack.
Okay, I was wondering the same thing too. Please don't judge weapons by their looks (I hate it when people does that. I mean, looking good doesn't mean it is good right? I am not talking about Blackened Crest right now because it is good).
But since you already got a great shield for FSC, I think you should get FoV which is what I am going to do (unless loads of people say it is a bad idea) when I am capable of taking down Vanaduke (which means getting Full Vog Cub and Grey Owlite)

fov may be useful on jelly
fov may be useful on jelly king and roarmulus since its charge can deal a lot of damage even if you sacrifice yourself for that. In the case of JK you will be hit anyways, so you trade your health for the fight taking less and possibly saving your teammates from getting damage due to longer fight. On the roarmulus its the same thing, since you have a short window to do damage you trade your health for making the fight last less time. On the firestorm citadel there are safer options but there is always health around so you can use fov more or less. fov lets you gift heat to your friends, silly to me but maybe is good for you.
I'd (will) get the crest first anyway :) owlite may be good but crest would be a shadow defense owlite. which means will be more useful than the other in dark city.

Crest has no purpose. Unless the zombies in Citadel are giving you trouble (lol) whatever shield you take to fsc should be a shield that is good for Duke, who deals normal/elemental/stun/fire.

If you don't already have a shadow shield then the Crest is nice for T3 Fiend strata, it seems to last much longer there than other popular shields (Grey, VPS, Barb.) Like Pupu said, an FSC shield should be tailored for Vanaduke... he's the only challenging thing there.
FoV is a novelty sword whose charge attack destroys the non-Vanaduke bosses. If someone has a FoV in JK then the battle should be over in less than 40 seconds (assuming they get their charge attacks off). Also, 2 charge attacks will kill a T3 Trojan in a 4 person party, Levi takes 4-5 charge attacks by comparison. So if I have a spare weapon slot then I'll bring one to FSC for the fun of setting Trojans on fire. The sword is 3-swing but about as slow as a DA, and the basic combo damage is not great by comparison. (Hit 1 is 266 vs 328 at D28.)
If you have lots of fire resistance, e.g. full Vog, the charge attack is only going to deal about 4 pips of damage to yourself, not a big deal at all.
It sets things on fire very frequently using the basic combo, which is fun/amusing. If you are a pyromanic then you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of the sword.

Does anyone here actually own either?
From the inputs I'm reading, it doesn't seem anyone has either items besides culture. The crest of almire isn't just an end game prop, its very good shield for fiend stratums. If you don't have a skelly shield, I suggest you getting the crest shield first. Since your using a grey owlite, you'll see a drastic difference in the amount of hits the crest can take versus fiends and other shadow environments.
The FoV is also a great sword to have, but since there are other swords you can use already, it's not quite a necessity as culture pointed out (Novelty). So this sword can wait. Who knows, maybe they might come out with an update that lowers the amount of tokens required like they did with the Jelly Tokens.

Crest has no purpose?!! That thing tanks fiends like a champ. Of course, you have to up it to the 5* version for it to be useful, but it will be your new best friend in a fiend strata.
FoV is similarly limited in its use though, perhaps even more so. It's a great sword for killing the Royal Jelly, but outside of that it is very lackluster compared to the DA. If you like 3-swing swords and want higher damage output, then you might use it in place of a Combuster (but that's about it).

Both items are huge
Both items are huge disappointments for the amount of effort that it takes to obtain them.
By comparison, I still use the barbarous thorn shield/blade that I got from Snarbolax, the DA & Argent from Jelly runs and even the Polaris & Voltaic Tempest from Roarmulus runs. I hardly ever equip anything that I've obtained from Vana runs other than for the sheer novelty of having them.
If I had to pick, I'd go with the shield first as it is somewhat handy in fiend stratums. FoV on the other hand is useless other than for taking down Jelly King which you should already have no problem with if you can successfully run Vanaduke 12+ times to afford the FoV.

Been having a grey owlite UV
Been having a grey owlite UV Piercing Medium (not relevant to the discussion though I guess). Still, been hanging out with the fiends from Silver Queen before vana came, overtimers kill the shield in two hits (second hit breaking it).
Well I had 39 vana tokens and decided what the heck, let's go for it. So I got a blackened crest, its not even the crest of almire and it can take more damage from them all in general than my owlite. Though taking it to FSC, it died in two hits testing it on shadow fire.(wasn't level 10 though but I'm not sure that would matter).
I don't have vog so sorry =T
But all it means is this is further pointing out the fact that you need to switch items at every stratum break. But all these months, I've gone without blackened crest before now so I don't think its necessary...its just necessary to run from fiends if you can't do that XD (or skelly perhaps? But I never used that shield). I'd rather take my owlite into a random arena than the blackened crest.

FOV is not a decent sword compared to DA.
It looks like a damn orange striker.
