Hello SK Community,
I know the subject of this message has been discussed to death as to "better", but I'm looking more for feedback along "fun to use." Basically, I realize that dedicated gunners pretty much unanimously state that Argent Peacemaker is never the best gun for a situation, but is it fun to use?
Granted, fun to use is based on play style so I'll describe mine. I like being able to move around while firing my gun (I've had great fun thus far with my cryotech and shadowtech alchemer line guns.) I tried autogun and did not enjoy using it at all. So I made a magnus (with callahan as the long term goal) and it's okay, but doesn't thrill me. I like it tons better than the autogun, but I keep thinking about the antiqua line. A large clip with high firing rate just sounds like it would be fun to use (Plus the 5* versions look wicked imo) Am I imagining something greater than they are?
I realize AP is not the best gun out there and long term I'll need more specialized gear (for vanaduke or the like) but I keep thinking I want to give it a try. However, considering I have 3 Jelly King tokens, I don't want to grind to 30 and then be greatly disappointed.
A little more background so everyone can see my picture... I was initially drawn toward gunning because, well, the nameless set looks so cool (and I LOVE the dollars trilogy)... I have two swords: Everyone says the calibur line is a good all purpose line and I have a Cold Iron Carver (yes, leviathan is better all around, but the 5* Cold Iron is a sword surrounded by a ghostly looking chain... can't pass that up) and I had started with flourish (because give me the choice between a greatsword and a fast rapier-like sword and I know what I'm going with) but now I'm currently at Twisted Snarble Barb (same as flourish except for charge. I find the flourish charge not so useful and dangerous where as the Barb-line charge is fun to use and more useful imo.) As for guns, the wiki suggested the alchemer line and I've enjoyed them for both the shadow version and the elemental/frost version.
So I guess the question still stands... anyone out there with a similar story? Have you tried the antigua line? Fun or No-Fun?
The AP doesn't get a lot of love, which is pretty bizarre to me. I think a community becomes very polarized when they can't handle having too many options. Maybe it's a gamer thing; if it isn't the best, it's not good enough. I don't know.
To answer your question, the AP is stupid-fun to shoot. Rolling around and emptying clip after clip on monsters is pretty awesome and while the damage is not exceptional, here's some definite benefits:
You can shield very quickly after firing, even after a reload. It has zero knock-back on a regular shot, so expect monsters to get in your face. Fortunately, you can shield bounce them and immediately resume firing. To be honest, it's exhilarating. I was the first out of my guild to get one and they were jealous. So, for a rough and tumble gunslinger, it's great. (I tend to get hit when using alchemers because I'm not used to the longer reload time.)
The range is spectacular. Hitting monsters from a distance, clearing obstacles, mowing down crystals, hitting switches, et cetera. As you said, it's never the best gun for a situation but it is versatile. The charge attack goes even further and has a little knock-back. I use it infrequently, but it's a giant glowing bird. I dunno, maybe it's an owlite.
The bullets are fast and can hit dodging targets. The damage is reasonable on all targets except slimes (which is no big loss) and gremlins (this is a bummer) and can be used to remove gun puppies or other constructs. It is really enjoyable for killing undead, which I am certain is its primary role.
And yeah, it's good in FSC.
I suspect that you have similar values and sensibility to myself. I have a Callahan simply because I am an Eastwood fan and the gun will in fact blow a monster's head clean off. I also rock the CIV (I never use my ASI High Leviathan now...) and love it.
So, if it is appealing to you, go for it. I think it is very fun.
