Swears (No, it's not what you think.)

So recently, I was looking at a thread in the graveyard and saw that this guy got suspended for swearing, (saying "hack", actually, in some sort of inappropriate context) and I was wondering: Can you get suspended/banned for using the chat controls to un-censor your swears? Furthermore, certain words are filtered completely (rather than saying %&*#!) no matter what filter mode you're on, like the word the means "any act of sexual intercourse that is forced on a person," (don't want to get banned). Are you only banned for using these?

Anyway, since GM are indubitably the most knowledgeable in this area, I'm hoping to get a GM reply, but if you have any information please share. Thanks!

Thanks, but...

That's not really what I'm getting at. I'm hoping to find out which words are punishable by the Terms of Service so I can avoid using them in future.

I see where this is going. If

I see where this is going. If you don't think you should say it, don't. That being said, most people run around swearing anyway.

Heh, yes that's true, but I

Heh, yes that's true, but I also just wanted to find out (since no one ever reads the Terms of Service).

Type properly and normally, if the word gets filtered it's up to each user filter settings, if it gets dropped don't type it or say it in other words.

Getting around the filter by doing "wor.d" "wo rd" "w0rd" is what will get you punished for being silly, since you are going around the filter and possibly making people who don't want to read such words (lol) read them.

My rough guess is it's HOW you use the words

My rough guess is it's how you use the words than than simply saying them. The guy who got banned for saying "hack" was probably threatening to hack his friend as a 'joke' and he got banned.

I doubt GM's will get involved for a player simply swearing, unless the swears are exceptionally aggressive and/or aimed at players directly. Meaning, if you simply swear in frustration at nothing in particular, probably ok, but if you turn into an Eric Cartman... there's probably going to be a problem.

In the end, it's still one of those things Three Rings "reserves the right to" apply however they see fit.

No player in any game should

No player in any game should be able to get in any trouble for using a swear that a chat filter blocks, if you turn the filter off, you are accepting to read the swears.
BUT, if someone is harrassing you using swears, then that is a different story, but if they are not aimed at you, you should have no right to report.
Doubt this is how OOO views it though.

Edit:
Regarding dropped words even with the filter on, if you bypass the filter by spelling them differently etc. expect to recieve a warning.
They are dropped for a reason.

Hmm

I find it odd that a bunch of words used as a degrading word for homosexual are totally banned, yet two variations are only optionally banned.

Ok....

So unfiltering swears is acceptable only in a non-harassing, non-threatening context. However, misspelling dropped words to get around the filter will result in a warning, suspension, or ban.

Also, Carabin, the wiki is empty.

You have to select the space with you mouse, and when the mouse highlights the space, you'll see the words, since they are the color white.

At least it works.

Thank god "assassin" works. Many swear filtering systems are guilty of removing this...

P.S. I have a bad habit of just typing out the cartoony swear (like !@#$) in game.
