Give mewbs "L" (Learner) plates like learner drivers have until they've got to Moorcroft and crafted an item. Once they've done those things, they're on their way to success.

Yesterday I helped a newb who was utterly mystified about crafting. I walked him through weapon choice, how to buy CE on the market, and helped him with enough crowns and materials to get him to craft a Calibur.

I remember back to when I first crafted an item - it was a touch tricky and if we saw players with "L" plates we could help them out easier.

Come on man, new players are stigmatised enough as it is.

I can't see what you're saying, did you mean... Stigmatism? hohoho...

I apologize for my joke. It was in poor taste...and eye sight. Hohoho.

No seriously. I'm sorry.

Ok, only have friendly

Ok, only have friendly designated helpers see the L-plates so that they can be helped. Getting up to speed at SK is tricky and some of this people could do with a hand.

I can see this working very

I can see this working very poorly.
New player goes to join party, ends up by themselves.
People seeing new player join kicks them from party as they don't want to deal with n00bs.
You will also have some people who don't want to be helped, nor treated like they are useless.
If they get implemented, it should be optional.

I think a better idea would be H plates, for helpers, so that people who are willing to help people can do so (when asked).

What I think would be good is forcing them to do things before they can enter the clockworks.
Perhaps have a mock training gate, with no energy cost, where they need to do things such as shield to get through a place (where you need to use sheild to try and get across and have it break right at the end), shield to knock back an enemy, have a spot where they die, a new version of them spawns, and they need to revive themselves (as if they were reviving a fallen party member). Also put in a monster that will kill you and heal completely if you just relentlessly attack it so you need to shield/gun/run away.
That will force them to learn the basics of the game, that they can revive fallen party members, that they can use a shield to avoid damage and push back monsters, and that shields break, and that they shouldn't just attack a monster and die. That way they will need less help, and not waste so much energy.
I was once playing with someone who joined at the terminal at T1, thought I was a newbie as I was wearing starting stuff as my costume, he called me a newbie, and then proceeded to waste heaps and heaps of energy reviving after continually attacking monsters and getting killed, reaching the last level with only 7 energy, and finally letting me revive him. (at one point he revived when I was standing right on top of him).
