I was just messing around with my friend Strudul saying that I was only in 5th grade. I didn't think that he would actually report me, so I didn't tell him that I wasn't actually in the 5th grade. Apparently, he actually DID report me, and now I'm banned for a day :/

I need a developer to un-ban me, please ;)

Um. Yeah.
Even if you didn't deserve the ban, you STILL aren't supposed to report it on the forums. Email Support about it.

The real moral of the story is don't be in 5th grade on the internet. Here there be dragons.

Why would they ban you for a day? Technicaly speaking, you arent allowed to have an account if you are under thirteen. Not that I'm in favor of this rule, just pointing out that it exists. If this is how they're gonna work, they should change the rule to "you cannot tell people your age if you are under 13" or something. That being said, my option still has exploits.

Even Facebook.

@DrLequack I wondered that

@DrLequack I wondered that too, but it was a breach of the TOS so I guess that's just confined to me breaking the rules, not something that would make me illegible for playing the game.

But that said, I'm glad that it's only for a day because if it were a perma-ban, I would probably never hear from customer support because it's so FREAKING SLOW.

I know this will sound stupid, but you should give support like a day to respond to your email...about your one-day ban.

This is the conundrum. I need it to be within like an hour or two.

But, because this is my first offense, it it happens again, I might get perma-banned. This is why I would like it to be wiped from the record.

Well, just be glad that you didn't get permanently banned, I know some peeps who were permanently banned without a temporary banned.

@Laserbam

Ohhhh I gotcha.
Yeah you should probably not pretend to be in the 5th grade anymore, even if this tempban gets wiped.
Also, the forums won't be a place to protest your permaban if it happens. As you can see, no one here has given you any constructive commentary. You'd be better off whispering it into a cave than telling the forums. :P

Guess what, even if you're

Guess what, even if you're not really in 5th grade, it's not a ban-able offense. You can technically be in 5th grade and be over 13 years of age. How that would be so whilst you figure out the usage of SK and forum posting, I have not a clue, but still...judgments by grade levels in schools are not grounds for a ban. If a GM or mod did that based solely on information of your grade level...then that was stupid on their part.

I think most websites and

I think most websites and games have the 13 year-old rule because their content might be similar to PG-13 movies and such. It's a liability thing--if a parent tries to sue a company for exposing their child to mature content, the company can just say "hey look, your kid was violating OUR ToS. Not our fault." Naturally, the company has no way to verify that everyone is 13 or older, so whenever they get notified that someone is probably underage they decide to err on the side of caution.

But, come to think of it, it's actually pretty hard to get banned for just pretending to be underage. Maybe Laserbam was doing more than just joking around? The world may never know...

http://www.coppa.org/ It's

http://www.coppa.org/

It's because of COPPA that under 13s aren't allowed to play. The only way they can play is if parents fill in some form and then send it to the company whose game/site the kid wants to participate in. Because the forms are so complicated and it's not likely the parents will fill in a form for something a kid will lose interest in within a month, most sites outright ban 13 and under just to not deal with the hassle. Plus they can get sued for providing services to under 13s.

I heard that COPPA was updated or outright abolished and replaced by something else though. I don't actually know much about it.

I'm pretty sure that isn't how bans work. You're probably not going to get permabanned because of a couple of minor offenses, and like another poster said, some people get permabanned right-away for grave offenses.

If you don't routinely act like a pain in the ass you'll be fine.

That does not make sense

Why would they ban someone for one day for being under 13? He/She is still going to be underage tomorow. If anything, Laserebam should have been banned for life. In fact, I don't think a one-day ban is a real thing. First of all, it would be called a suspention, not a ban. Most importantly, it's too weak to teach any kind of lesson. Plus, banned on the say-so of a random player? I don't think so.

Laserbeam, I think you are a liar.

The banning system is

The banning system is simple.

It goes:
1st Offence - Warning
2nd Offence - Temp Ban (48 hours)
3rd Offence - Perma Ban (Forever)

Although there are ways to get insta-perma-ban, such as eploiting a certain CE bug.

This, however, is true.

With regard to underage players, please understand that when a GM sees a player talking about being underage, they have to take it seriously. Other players take it seriously and will report those they think may be underage, as the OP says.
