I was on a cr farming run this morning and a guy joined who ran from literally everything. Every time enemies spawned, he ran like the wind in the opposite direction. He would only pause to open a new area and then run as fast as he could to the elevator. I thought about kicking him, but I was too confused and fascinated. Tried talking to the guy, but he wouldn't respond. Thankfully he didn't have access to T2 so I could continue the run in peace. Anyway, anyone seen this before? A new trend I don't know about--leaving the enemies alone, like an anti-MMO?
Anyone else seen anything like this?
- Every crown you earn, he earns
- Every heat you earn, he earns too.
- Every material you pick, he had a chance to pick instead.
And so on, and so forth. In short. The smartypants was making you were carrying him.
Frankly, this is the first time I ever see something like this too. Huh.
A while ago I was making an IMF run and there was a Guy with wolver set and cobalt sheild. He making everyone mad as he ran through the depths with his sheild up the whole time. Lucky we hit every arena. He wouldn't have helped otherwise. We couldn't kick him because he was party leader. We figured he was a newb, but when push came to shove he was kiting like a pro. Maybe it's a thing all the pros are doing when they're bored. Niketin was the name.
This guy was no pro--he was dropping energy left and right on self-revs after taking odd hits from spikes/getting cornered by spawning baddies. If he was doing it for fun, he was doing it really badly. If he was just leeching, it seems self-defeating spending all that energy on relatively little reward... weird.
He makes you do all the hard work and still gets heat/crowns for not doing anything, he's just lazy.
He's not if he's actually making an effort to run away. Which is niether entertaining nor quick, so not only is he not having fun killing enemies by camping in a far corner, but he's he's getting his stuff more slowly by not helping get through levels. If he were lazy, he would do nothing. No input at all.
The smartypants was making you were carrying him.
The whole point of leeching and having someone carry you is that you don't do any work. If you're running around consciously spending time opening up gates and running away from enemies, you're still spending time playing the game, and you're wasting your own time as well by not helping kill things that now have higher HP due to your presence. Leechers are AFKers that abuse a lack of kicking abilities to simply sit at the start of every level and wait for the party they're with to clear a level, and that wouldn't work in this game (party buttons). This guy was not leeching.
If he was doing it for fun, he was doing it really badly. If he was just leeching, it seems self-defeating spending all that energy on relatively little reward... weird.
And then there's this. If the guy was leeching, not only is he doing is badly, he's also losing any potential profit to be gained from it. He wasn't taking advantage, and he wasn't helping out. I wouldn't have kicked him, either; I'd have been laughing the whole time. If we all get the same crown and heat amount it's in his best interest to clear the levels faster for a higher resource per time unit return. I don't know why someone would do this either.
I don't know, actively going out of your way to not help while still getting all the benefits still sounds like leeching. Terrible leeching but still. I can't really think of any reason to do it otherwise. Perhaps someone completely out of their depth but they still want the goodies and progression of the higher tiers?
But leeching is when you benefit from someone else's hard work while relatively you do little to none at all. He still needs to kite enemies in small spaces, stand on party buttons, and activate elevators. This requires his almost full attention, so the benefit of leeching (not having to do anything) isn't even there. It also takes longer, because he's not helping to kill anything. And finally, there's no fun involved in it (from my POV); all the fun comes from smashing things. The whole REASON to leech is to obtain the spoils of someone else's work, but not only is he working at the game, he's also not even making a profit if he dies as often as OP says, which counteracts the entire point of doing it.
This is the clearest explanation I can give for why he's not leeching. Maybe, in his mind, he thinks he's doing it...but he's not. I can't see any logical reason for why someone would herp and derp so badly, but people aren't the most logical of things.
Luckily I've only had this once. Guy just stood in the corner, or way behind the rest of us. I kicked him when he started telling us to fight for him :P Not cool. I refuse to carry dead weight like that.
The old Silver Queen gate, me and a random person were running through the depths. Another random was there as well. He died, nothing unusual, but it was odd that he took a long time to get up. Then he got disconnected. Ok, I figured that was fine. I forgive disconnections if they're short.
But then d21 he died, did not get up nor got disconnected until the end. Same thing on d22. But on Basil, he was the first one to check the inventory...
I ran into a knight that would run as fast as possible through the entire level, not bothering to kill anything unless there was a monster gate. Many times he'd even run right past treasure boxes and minerals. Then he sat on the elevator asking everyone to "please hurry." Very odd, but amusing.
There are a lot of very young kids playing this game. The fighting and monsters are actually scary to them, and they prefer to run than fight.
instead of kicking him, go solo.
go solo is AWESOME and costs NO energy

They don't make small children like they used to...
On the subject, I've never had to deal with a knight like that, running through the entire level and expecting us to do all the work. But if and when I do, I'll just either A, kick them, or B, go solo. In both cases I'll tell the person s/he's a lazy dead weight and not fun to play with.
@andyspace144
I would have, had I been the only other one in the party. But since there were others who were actually being productive, I chose to kick them instead. There's nothing wrong with kicking them if they're the only one being a freeloader, haha.
Step 1: Bring the freeloader into an arena
Step 2: Assemble on/around the Party Button in the last battlefield
Step 3: Kick the idiot into his own instance the moment he sets foot on the Button (even if there is one or more other non-slacking party members that are not actually on the Button yet)
Step 4: Wait for iiiiiit......
Step 5: Laugh at him when he sends you angry messages. Or just use /ignore and laugh at him when he tries to send you those angry messages but can't.
Step 6: Profit. It's an arena after all. Delicious crowns.
When the freeloader is kicked into his own instance, he (and therefore his "entire party") will already be standing on the button, thereby activating it and releasing the monsters. They can't actually hit him 'til he finishes loading in, but he'll be surrounded and proooobably going to take a big beating before he can react.
Bonus points if Basil is on the very next floor, meaning the idiot can't even buy recipes if he somehow does survive.
You lose all your currently gathered heat so this is only true when you haven't started a level yet.
Here's what you have to do guys.
In D16 of jelly, make sure you bring the statue up while they stand on the gate. Kick them then, as they will be stuck.
Let everyone die while he is the only one alive.
Kick him at the level right before a boss, or at the end of a arena.
????????????
Profit.
I believe guyjin 's words, mostly because I saw it happen once; the guy panicked during the battle and tried to hide in a corner. Unlike most of these runners-idlers though, he had the decency of talking to us.
Well, we kind of were at Vanaduke, so I can understand him going pan-pan. But sheesh, he could have chosen a better moment, yes...
He makes you do all the hard work and still gets heat/crowns for not doing anything, he's just lazy.
