I have a heavy plate shield (No UV) as well as a grey owlite (UV Elemental MAX)

Will the plate stand up better in FSC (plan to go Volcanic) or would I be better off sticking with the Owlite?

As for everywere else.
Am I correct in assumeing the Plate will absorbe all attacks (damage types) more normal not withstanding, better than the Owlite will over all?

If it's not better over all should I just stick with the Owlite and drop the plate shield?

I'd rather not burn 800CE if It's not going to be of much use.

Any input is much apreciated.

The Owlite line of shields

The Owlite line of shields are considered God Tier for a reason. The Heavy Plate Shield, while decent in its own right, simply does not do as well with what the Grey Owlite Shield does. In the Firestorm Citadel, the Heavy Plate Shield is only better at taking strikes from Vanaduke's mace. The issue with that is you won't be getting hit in rapid succession therefore that endurance is relatively meaningless [since the Grey Owlite Shield can withstand a direct attack].

Its overwhelming normal defense is overshadowed by the Grey Owlite's Elemental Defense [given you have UV max as well, it unbalances it even more] and its Fire/Shock resistance. Overall, stick with the Grey Owlite Shield. It is far more practical.

Grey Owlite is better and it looks great too

Plate Shield just absorbs Normal attacks not Elemental, Piercing (unless you go with Ironmight Plate Shield) or Shadow attacks. Volcanic Plate Shield is good for Vanaduke himself though not good for the bullets from his mask stage, his fire snakes and the fire patches (since they all deal Elemental). So I'd rather go with Grey Owlite if I were you (if there is a Stun resist UV it would be excellent for Vanaduke).

Slag guards?

You can avoid shadow fire on the ground is most of the time (occasionally, some would spawn right next to you, you can't avoid THAT though), but can your Grey Owlite Shield survive charged->lanced (by a slag guard)->charged again->smashed by Vanaduke? No.
With a Volcanic Plate Shield? Barely.
