Okay first off. A gate costs 3 energy to open. If you convert the energy into crowns that is like 200 crowns. The rewards that these gates give is not worth 200 crowns even if there are 4 players. They need to up the number of chests behind each energy door. You may be saying "well you can just use mist energy which means that it's free!" That's true and not true at the same time. For people that log on, play a few levels, then log off that's true. However if people actually do things like alchemical or run multiple gates then it's not. At that point mist energy may as well be the same as crystal energy. So for these people it is not free.

I remember in the beta there were energy gates that held a Basil. I have yet to see one of these (although I haven't really gotten to tier 3 yet). These would be worth it because you could buy recipes to sell on the market. Which indirectly would act as a crown sink because when you sell something on the auction house you lose some crowns. So not only is this itself worth it, but it gives players another chance to get that recipe that they wanted. I'm not saying we should have Basils all over the place (that could hurt the market with over saturation) but they there at least be some of them. I've played a good amount of T2 and have yet to find a single one.
