Game Freezes While Engaged with any Vendor

So I got the game was loving it and then crash. This generally occurs when I have the clockworks vendor or the lady outside of each town opened up to buy recipes.

I'm not really sure what the problem is here. I've reinstalled Java hoping that was the issue, Ive attempted compatibility changes to see if it wasn't just a compatibility issue, didn't fix the issue though.

After every crash some error pops up about my video card drivers crashing. I tried to update but there are no updates for my drivers.
Currently I am running:

Win7 64bit
2x Radeon HD 5700's

I had crossfire enabled during initial use, I've since turned it off, which didn't help either.

Currently there is an issue

Currently there is an issue with ATI graphic cards' drivers. This problem has since plagued ATI user since the Catalyst 10.3 update (OpenGL issue, google that for more info.)
The reason why you crash is that SK eats up all or nearly all of you available physical memory (RAM.)
After playing a few depths you would see noticeable decrease in frame rate and such, and when your weapon icons turn into white boxes, you know that SK is gonna suddenly crash. Many users with ATI graphic card (including me) have this problem where SK crash after playing for a (vary from person to person) period of time OR or playing certain maps (Ironclaw Munition Factory ALWAYS crash my comp within 30 seconds of entering.)
There is, however, a kind of bandaid fix for this situation for Window users:
While playing SK, Alt-Tab or Ctr+Alt+Del and bring up the Task Manager -> End process javaw.exe (Spiral Knight) -> Run Spiral Knight again.
Other players will see that you have been disconnected (until you run your SK again), but your knight is still (wherever he/she is) in Spiral Knight.
This method works, no doubt about that.
I often use this to reset SK before I face Vanaduke's fiery mace.
Good luck and have fun playing SK

Thank you for the insight.

Thank you for the insight. That is disappointing. It seems as though Vendors eat up my memory. I have 16gb's which is sad and 2 or 4gb's of video memory, I guess it just eats it up that quick. I personally believe its a driver issue, probably along the lines of catalyst. Thank you though that is most helpful in at least giving my sadness a reason, when the game crashes unexpectedly.

Too bad it isn't really

Too bad it isn't really accurate......

What you should do is check the SK folder for any hs_errPID####.log files. Its generated by the JVM when it crashes, and includes a stack trace pointing to the last thing it was doing when it crashed. Most likely its the atioglxx drivers, but seeing as its consistently dying while talking to a vender, it could be a corrupt resource file.

A few known ways to alleviate some ATI issues is to set the Catalyst AI mode to "standard" (can't remember what its called in the new control panel), and Cat 11.8 has been showing improved handling with the game.

Update: So I just updated to

Update:

So I just updated to the new Catalyst and there was another driver along with it. Hopefully these advanced graphics controls will fix this issue. I'm going to do some tinkering and hopefully have a resolution to this error to provide to anyone who has, or will have, this issue.

Update: Round 1:Tested a span

Update:

Round 1:Tested a span of 15 minutes talking to the vendor. My game stayed in and didn't freeze.
Round2: Tested reopening the vendor several times in short interval. My game stayed in and didn't freeze.

It looks like the 11.8 Catalyst did the trick.

So for those of you experiencing this similar issue, try updating your CCC.
