Faster Blocking Alternative

As it stands, blocking is more of an anticipated move rather than a reaction. If you see that Devilite about to hurl a chair at you, you can warm up your block and be safe. If you notice it after it's left his hands, you're likely to be out of luck unless he's fairly far away from you.

My request is a separate line of shields or perhaps a trinket that offer(s) instant blocking so that you can block more reactively. Swordsmen could be more effective in monster duels by quickly parrying the monster's attack after a few strikes, allowing them to be more aggressive. Some balancing drawbacks could be increased player knockback, longer shield recharge time, or perhaps reduced shield strength.

The reason I'm making this request is because too many times I've seen something flying at me, tried to block instinctively, and still got hit anyway because blocking has a warmup.

Thank you for reading.

One major flaw... shield

One major flaw... shield activation is a server side operation. Any latency has to be factored into your reaction time, and can become problematic if your far away from the servers.

Shield Focus Module

Shield Focus Module: Shield Activation Speed Increase: Low
Elite Shield Focus Module: Shield Activation Speed Increase: Medium

And it'd be nice if they started throwing those attributes onto various shields as they level, much like CTR, and perhaps instead of +health for those shields.

And the abbreviation, of course, would be SASI :3

What? Shields are

What? Shields are instanteous, how do you want them to get faster...?

Oi!

Oi, look at the above post. shielding time is determined by latency. Ever notice thaw when you're lagging a lot, you tend to shield slower?

Exactly, so tell me mr.

Exactly, so tell me mr. engineer, how the eff you gonna speed that up? Shield's reaction time is 0ms, all the latency you get is from your own network latency which is something that can't be fixed by some LOLTRINKETS. You can't predict someone pressing a button, okay. If they could implement something to fix this already they would.

By making it client-side.

By making it client-side.

EDIT: It was 4 AM when I made my other post and assumed it was latency AND a built-in animation warmup.

I believe that they try to

I believe that they try to keep everything server-side, relying on the client as little as possible.

the ultimate enemy is latency

the ultimate enemy is latency and unless they make something that automatically blocks for u, nothing will help if you are lagging

As an alternative:

Why not a new series of shields, which has a toggle set - And your able to attack while using it. the drawback of this shield is that it can only successfully take one hit, and while using it, you attack speed is the same as it is while stunned - with no charge ability.

This effectively stops the latency problem, if you leave it up all the time, but it does bring a drawback for doing so.

That becomes too situational,

That becomes too situational, and useless if your surrounded. I would also consider having slow attacks 100% of the time to be a death sentence.

If you rely on attacks to

If you rely on attacks to push the enemy away, you're doing it wrong.
If you expect shield to work instaneously after being pressed, you're living in the wrong place.
If you expect Spiral Knights to be lag-free or bug-free, you're putting money in the wrong pocket. They need another 50 million US dollars to hire programmers, re-write code from scratch and buy more servers worldwide.
