If you hold W and D or A and S you can't shield. If you hold down X you can't walk diagonaly up-right or down left. I dunno why, but it's a bug since I can go up-left and down-right while shielding still.
Cannot walk diagonal with sheild.
most keyboards can't handle 3 keys pressed simultaneously
But I can walk diagonaly with AW and SD but not WD and AS. Sure it's the keyboard?
Positive. The circuitry in a keyboard is bunch of switches tied to a set of ICs that detect key presses and send that information to a main controller that translates it into the appropriate codes. But due to the layout, grouping, and how many keys an IC can interpret at once, certain key combos can't be handled correctly.
I have the same problem with my keyboard where I can't use S with A/D if shield (X) is up.
Thats weird. I can walk using any combination of buttons.
Come to think of it, after getting my current keyboard (Logitech G11 Gamer Keyboard) I don't remember hearing the damn BEEP when I press almost any 3 buttons at the same time. Was horror in fighting games back in the day...
My advice: get a decent USB keyboard.
Almost all keyboards are USB now. But your G11 is a higher end keyboard, so it would make sense.
Beofre buying a new keyboard try mapping the shield to a button on your mouse. That's how I do it.
Thats right, you can map 2 keys to the same function in this game.
Hold both shift keys and type "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog"
You'll see
A simple solution requiring no purchase:
test different buttons that allow you to walk diagonal with a shield. I'm pretty sure WASD (any 2 of these) won't work with third button pressed, but some combinations of 3 buttons might work. Just don't expect more than 3.
If you play games a lot, gather some money and buy a proper keyboard. Just test it to see if 3+ buttons work at the same time, though I'd simply take something made by Logitech or Razer ($50 and upwards).
If your gonna remap shield, spacebar is the best key to use unless your trained to use it as weapon switching.
Definitly the keyboard. I had a keyboard with wich i couldn play Heroes in the Skys (Airplane Game) because i couldnt fly right-down AND use turbo. However it worked with left-up AND turbo. So i bought myself a gamer keyboard for 100~ $ now i can use 20 keys at the same time o.O Don't ask how to do that :D -> old mutliplayer games on same keyboard hahaha

If you map shield to a modifier key (ctrl, shift, or alt) it will work. Or you could use the superior setup of having shield on right mouse button, attack on left, and walk forward on middle click (only for non-combat areas).
It's probably your keyboard. Cheaper keyboards use a fairly simple circuitry layout that prevents them from reading certain combinations of key presses simultaneously. The problem is called "ghosting", and many gamer keyboards employ a variety of "anti-ghosting" techniques to limit or eliminate it.
