pg.180: ... use of divine magic
lol
read it at a bookstore or something and ill prove it
The red pyramid by rick riordan: gran faust and divine avenger
oh snapp...
maybe its just an egyptian word
SK could get sued by using the names from Red Pyramid.
You know nothing of law. Go sit in a corner.
Well- This just proved the overall inteligence of the Spiral knights forums.
Gran Faust is not an egyptian word.
If you know anything about classical literature, Faust is the name of a german legend.
Gran means Grand(mother/father), essentially old.
Eh as long as SK gets sued once I will be so happy. Not from Red Pyramid book though.
Words in spiral knights can be found in other places besides spiral knights?!
It could've been that The Red Pyramid that took the names from Spiral Knights, not the other way around, considering how long SK has been in development.
Next thing you know, Homer, Virgil and Dante Alegheiri will sue OOO for the use of the word Acheron.
You can't copyright english folks.
I'm starting to think Devs are smart of copying names without being caught.
Gran means great in Italian
Faust could be from a classic German legend and is it's protagonist: "Though a highly successful scholar, he is dissatisfied, and makes a deal with the devil, exchanging his soul for unlimited knowledge and worldly pleasures."
otherwise there are some other references
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faust_%28disambiguation%29
meh. i read a book called "Endymion Spring". there's a gm called Endymion, and in the book theres a guy called Faust. I think its the same faust as metioned in monkeyman's post.
On that same line, the Greeks/Romans can sue all the GMs; haven't you noticed what their names have in common?
...And so the word "Faustian" dies.
My god, did you guys know that OOO stole the concept of "knights" from other fantasy games? I really hope the creators of Camelot and what not don't find out...
and that they stole the troika and khorovod and grintovec and jalovec and triglav and flamberge names from other languages?! they mean other stuff (troika and khorovod are russian dances, flamberge is a dance, jalovec and grintovec and triglav are mountians in the andes i think.) and did u know that they stole the words Spiral and Knights and Gremlins and Clocks and Works and Jellies and Slimes and Jelly and King and Haven and Arcade and etc???!!! (well, technically not for Jelly and King. its really royal jelly. Whoah! they stole the word Royal! AAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!"
ZOMG.
lol.
and no, cactus, i am not mocking u. or zero either.
...this thread is real? Is it...really saying that the word Faust is a copywrite infringement to a 20th century author?
I'm trying to think of a proper analogy to this. Gimme a sec.
Okay, how about someone getting mad at Dominos Pizza for using an image of a domino on their packaging, and restitution should be paid to Fats Domino, the originator of the domino.
uhm,
Someone gets mad at a moose because their name sort of sounds like goose, and a duck should sue a moose, because a duck and a goose are the same thing, right?
LAWSUITS FOR EVERYONE. If you've ever drank lemonade, you're liable in a lawsuit to pay the LeMans racing organization, because of some sort of thing that I don't understand but will not stop typing about.
epic lolz man.
what if Bigfoot sued BigfootM because his name is bigfoot but then sasquatch sued Bigfoot because bigfoot is another name for Sasquatch but the Chewbacca sues all three of them because he looks like a bigfoot.
wait... i dont think dat makes sense...
derp.
and bigfootm, srry for using u as an example. uh oh. i used his name without permision. he can sue me! and bigfoot and sasquatch and Chewbacca too!
AAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
please don't sue me...
Sk came out in april.
red pyramid came out last year

a calibur is a real sword

Combuster= combustion
AAAAAH SUE EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD FOR USING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE!
Necromancer, I think you forgot Aegis, a large collar or cape.
Yes, SK was released in April, but it's been in development since 2009 (saw this on Wikipedia, correct me if I'm wrong). Who's to say the author didn't play SK during the preview events, and drew inspiration from there?
They "stole" the concept of jellies from alot of Korean/Japanese games, and the interface and style is obviously a knock-off of The Legend of Zelda games.
Point being, even if SK stole names from the Red Pyramid, you cannot look at a single video game nowadays, and not see another video game/reference/allusion to another story. It is totally natural to bring in other awesome things to make an even awesome'r thing.
---
I suggest making this thread into a "where'd you get that name?" game.
I'll start: Sentenza means sentence in Italian and the description is a reference to "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." (as stated by the wiki)
ill contimue...
good idea, Zerosoul.
OK, i have it now.
they are all based on other words or roots.
