As per this image, I'm having trouble running this game on my mac or pc, both in the Steam and browser versions. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
HTTP Response code 502
Thanks for the reply. I can reach getdown.txt, but trying digest gives me this message "Content Encoding Error. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."
Totally bizarre. So you say the problem could be with my ISP's proxy server? I'm assuming that's something I couldn't affect change in. Otherwise it's my router? Would there potentially be any settings that I could change to attempt to remedy this? I've got 121 games on steam, none of them apart from Spiral Knights have ever had a problem with my flavor of internet.
Part of the weirdness is because SK patch server seem to conflict with external proxy servers when it tries to handle digest.txt and getdown.txt (being simple uncompressed text files). The rest of the files aren't affected because they are all compressed jars and binaries that proxies will usually leave alone since they can't optimize them in anyway.
To work around this, you can go to proxify.com and drop the URLs into the first bar above the check boxes, and it'll pull and display the text files correctly. Then you can right click, and "Save Page As", save it to the desktop. Then rename the file to the correct name (digest.txt) and use it to replace the old (digest.txt) in the SK folder.
Once you've manually replaced the digest.txt and getdown.txt files, it should finish the rest of the patching on its own. The only problem though is that you'll probably have to repeat this everytime theres a new patch due to the proxy server interfering with the patcher.
SK install location differs depending on how it was installed.
Steam version is in the steamapps folder.
Web play is located in C:\Users\%user%\AppData\LocalLow\spiral\
Local client is located in C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Three Rings Design\Spiral Knights\
Thanks again. I've tried this a few times but it still gives me the exact same 502 error with digest.txt, even after manually replacing the files. I've tried using the url's above as well as different ones that are specified each time I try to run the game. Pretty frustrating.
If you're still trying the links Starlin posted above, that might be your problem---those are out of date already.
The current (Sept 5 bugfix) version number is: 20110906154737
So you need:
http://download.threerings.net/spiral/20110906154737/digest.txt
http://download.threerings.net/spiral/20110906154737/getdown.txt
When you open that digest file, the first few lines should be:
getdown.txt = c23d635d750623d9fed338a591878306
code/config.jar = 5ce47d47a3af001f7b338d6734921452
code/projectx-config.jar = 6f3e47f14d3fe48836fd260d4b535611
code/projectx-pcode.jar = 408f6f3ec80e987b3738e80805a118f2
code/lwjgl.jar = a341f2ae0165f9eb2918c1fbac165f16
If you're not seeing that, then you're not even grabbing the right files.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes#5xx_Server_Error
502 Bad Gateway
The server was acting as a gateway or proxy and received an invalid response from the upstream server.
Theres a problem with your ISP's proxy server, or your router if its acting like one.
See if you can manually reach the files via the link. That should give feed back on the address for the proxy returning the error.
