Moorcraft manor and emberlight fell too empty to be called subtowns, add some random NPCs to them to make them feel more alive.
They don't have to do anything special, just wander around and provide random tips or some lore.
Populate subtowns
I feel they should be almost like Haven, with the ability to wander around inside them at all times. Perhaps add a couple of vendors (not vitapods, etc, but actual vendors), an auction house, etc.
Actually, what if you could only access T1 from haven, T2 from moorcraft, and T3 from emberlight? add gates to each, etc. Not only could you do a full run with 3 bosses, but it would encourage players to use the towns more.
Ultimately I agree, sub-towns are just terminals with gates that block out newbies. They need to be more useful. (As do guild halls - the same problems - but that's another topic entirely.)
I think Moorcroft is fine as a creepy forlorn chateau, however.
I don't mind it having gates and an AH, though. Just not too many NPC's.
Moorcroft Manor and Emberlight used to be hubs for players to hang out in, or so have I been told. I would much like to see the return of a player-populated Moorcroft Manor and Emberlight, where you could hang around and chat. I am unsure of how party-making worked back then, but I guess something could be done in that regard.
Unfortunately, I don't see this happening. At the very least not anytime soon. They might open up again in the future, might not, but I hope.
There are already a few NPCs, but the subtowns definitely feel rather deserted.
