As it stands now, these two weapons, and all of their upgrades, are the most problematic, chaotic weapons in the game, and they have the least possible synergy with group play.
They are fantastic weapons (the pulsar guns anyway), and for solo play they allow a tremendous amount of safety.
However, with a group, they offer nothing but uncooperative gameplay, stress, and the resulting high blood pressure.
Why does this happen, you ask?
I remember a "Bomber" thread on the forums awhile back, which put it very succinctly, describing the Nitronome as a "Blue Screen of Death".
The Pulsar does the same same thing.
And it's not even a matter of merely not seeing a damn thing every other second. It's more specific.
It's the fact that you can't see attack animations. And that means if you're melee you don't know when you put up your shield.
I was a gunner for a long time. I used an Alchemer because I wanted something I knew I could largely spam in the presence of swordies without messing anyone up. Now that I use a sword, I find that I just plain can't engage. If there are pulsars or blast bombs going off it's much safer to stand back and watch, than to run in and get walloped because I didn't know an attack was incoming. And this is while practicing the safer combo - 1 for fast shielding.
Most experienced gunners will tell you that it's a matter of practice, but that only works for keeping yourself safe. You're still wrecking havoc on your group.
And so, in conclusion, I've been very patient, but as I'm about to the point where I'm ready to auto-kick anyone in a pug that I see pull out a Nitronome or a Polaris, I figured it was worth bringing my stance to the forums.
While I can understand getting lost in the explosions, at the very least I wouldn't want the pulsar line changed. As chaotic as it is, several times I've been saved by a team mate pulling one out and blasting enemies apart with it.
