Is the silvermail line good for any practical purpose?
Just want to know.
I want one, but I'm not sure if it's good.
Is there a silvermail Helm?
also, whst IS silvermail? is it like some better version of valkyrie mail?

I've got a silvermail, and it's not very useful. In fact, in hindsight, I can't really think of a situation where I'd really want an armor that isn't a normal/something split.
About the only place it's really useful is the Scarlet Fortress levels since they're mostly undead, jelly and beast, but even there you have to deal with elemental damage from the gun puppies. And, let's face it, the Scarlet Fortress levels aren't the hardest thing to survive in the first place. That is, unless you forget to bring a gun and get owned by the gun puppy gauntlet in Grim Gallery. Which is Elemental damage.
I have one that I originally created for a well rounded armor set... it doesn't see use in the clockworks outside of being my costume armor. It MIGHT be useful in Lockout, again for a well rounded set since you have no idea what your opponents will be packing.

Silvermail will be my bane in lockout... I primarily use a pure piercing sword, and a pure elemental gun. Now that you make me think about it, the no-normal defense armors will be especially useful against pure gunners, who rarely if ever use normal damage weapons, instead relying on carrying multiple damage types...
That said, normal defense is still good against any non-piercing swords, and probably bombers who'll mostly be using nitronomes for dps, maybe the odd spine cone.
Oh dear... soon I'll have to think about pvp viability for armor as well as weapons.
Still, the points made in the thread still stand - silvermail, having no normal defense, isn't a good idea in the clockworks - only turrets and kat bullets deal pure shadow/piercing damage, so you lose the benefit of normal defense against everything else, ending up in the same situation as having normal/piercing armor against an elemental/shadow enemy. You'd reduce half the damage against most piercing/shadow enemies, and only full damage against a small handful - and zero defense against anything elemental, where you normally at least have normal defense.
Not at all related to valkyrie mail:

It's related to the drake scale line, and few (if any) people use it for the same reason that very few use the drake scale line: no normal dmg resistance. Silvermail provides piercing/shadow, as drake provides piercing/elemental--valkyrie is normal/shadow. Also, silvermail's bonus against undead just isn't that impressive compared with so many more useful alternatives. Might be worth experimenting with it in tier 3, but even then, tier 3 undead aren't what most people are afraid of...
