What a horrible night to have a curse

Introducing something for those who want to have more of a challenge or want to diversify their gameplay habits.

The main idea is that you go talk to this NPC and he can give you a "curse"(don't confuse it with the status effect) whitch lasts for 24 hours and gives you a passive effect on your knight but also a benefit if you follow the rules of the curse.

the effects could be:

-when wielding a weapon type you have 15% faster movement speed, while with other weapons you move 20% slower
-your attacks 60% less damage but you reflect 150% damage when blocking with your shield
-while you are at 33% health or lower you move faster and your attacks deal critical damage, ignoring monster resistance.
-when shield breaks you are stunned for a short while, more shield health
and many more!

if you dont like the curse you recieve you can always remove it by donating some materials to the npc- it should not be much but the items you have to donate are randomly selected and should not be very rare.
even if you remove the curse you can only get another one 24 hours after you recieved the first one.

the most convenient place for the NPC would be that Kat who is doing the dark ritual in Mooncraft Manor.

and that's all folks. Any suggestions?

OMG YES

I would love this so much. That would be a good use for the Kat in Moorcroft Manor that just says: "What Dark Ritual?"

+1 million for you XD

What the advantage over

What the advantage over putting effects like this on equipment? The "extra curse slot" and "24-hour" thing etc you'd get in my opinion does not justify an entirely new game mechanic. There are already pieces of equipment that have "curses" (mad bomber... chaos set... fallen set) and i'd rather see more of those added (and some of them better balanced). "curse equipment" will contribute to the equipment system and will benefit from future changes to it, "kat curses" rather sound like a dead end that just sits there and has to be maintained so it doesn't break with future updates.

Almost all of the advantages of that curse system could be realised with existing features (p.E. make the curse npc a "token type trader". If necessary for balancing, make the "new super curse equipment" work like the weapon slot / coin boosters, so it can be made available for cheap + dissapear after 24 hours. Though I'm not sure if that would be a good idea).

@ufna spiral knights it's a

@ufna

spiral knights it's a very equipment focused game so i know where you are coming from. (This suggestion of mine is an upgrade from what i told in an earlier post: having descriptive effects as an UV- sort of like special UV's. But then i realised that we already have a lot of possible UVs to roll on a weapon- why you would want to ruin it with situational effects;;)

Now the first thing it would help if the effect would not be too game breaking- so the basic of the curse system is like making a deal with the devil: get a small benefit but in the end have a major downside. Sure you can make equips that are a bit special i am all for it(like a coin-flip sword that on hit it deals damage or heals the target 50% chance) but every equipment like this needs to be tested for balance;things like this take time.
consider this:
the Kat curses can be used to test new effects devs think off. It will last only for 24 hours, it will get feedback on the forums and they will react accordingly. Balance is very important and this system could be a good tool for the devs and can be used as another crown sink.
Balance is not only in Pve but also PvP now that Lockdown is coming. obviously the curse system would not work with that unless the same effect is on everyone so everyone has the same chance. But a better way is to just say that arenas have some Soul Disturbance Emitter that makes all curses on knights vanish while they are in the arena. Of course on exit you are greeted with a message like " you feel a presence following you" and the curse effect is re-applied.

In the end the Kat curses are like opening a present every day and see what you get. Could be good or bad, who knows.

Hmmm...

I think rather than being a penalty/bonus thing, you should get a curse that would be purely penalty, but if you complete X floors or kill a specified boss, you get a reward for doing it with the curse. This would be great for players seeking greater danger and greater reward.

Well I wouldn't want "cursed" party members to be in my PUG...

...so make it that "cursed" knights can only solo or team up with other "cursed" guys and gals.

Not to jack your thread

But I love that you pulled out the Simon Belmont, Castlevania 2 reference. Points for that!

@FernPanda ah, that would be

@FernPanda
ah, that would be a problem if the community would be teared in two. we already have those who hate if someone uses a specific equipment(i'm looking at you polaris), but still, only good players would be better to do the curse thing because if they are skilled, it would be no problem if they are a bit gimped. But i know you will still get the classic 3-star players who get a hard curse and are doing a jk run for the first time.

at the very least the kat curses could be included in a kat boss level series:

"on the first stage you get to a (mini) boss to everyones surprise; it is not a hard and long fight and you get the new tokens. While everyone is asking himself "is that it?" the tokens you recieved turn out to be fake and cursed at that. Surely enough you hear the pranksters laugh and dash to the next floor, to pursue the real king of this stratum and remove the curses you and your team mates recieved by touching those tokens. It is victory or living with the curse forever* from now on!"

*forever as in untill you give up and return to haven

still i would like a npc curse smith but the above scenario makes me exited too.

For the op. A little challenge at some stage could be cool.
