Is there some magic trick I'm missing to joining tier 2 groups? You always get stuck with a group that has just finished a tier 1 run. Plus the fact that it costs 200 crowns every time you join a group makes it almost impossible to look for a tier 2 group.

Boom Diddly! I believe it takes you to the group furthest from the Core...
I think the whole party joining system should get fixed so it is easier to join parties, and you should have the ability to pick which party you want to join.

A tier 2 group that just started wouldn't really be a problem. A tier 1 group that just finished and has no intention of descending further is.

This is a big peev of mine - the end of Tier 1 and the start of Tier 2 should have an additional separator.

This is likely to remain a problem for a long while, as I suspect that the playerbase will stay skewed towards the low tiers long into the life of the game.

I frequently have the same problem of trying to join a tier 2 group. Most of the time I end up with a group that just finished tier 1 and they can't even pass the spiral wardens gate.
It was really starting to become a big waste of energy fishing for a good tier 2 group, so i just started making tier 2 games, waited a few minutes, and soon enough i would have a full party for a run.

Or you could just ask in the arcade if any one would like to join for a run before you make the game.

It costs nothing if you

It costs nothing if you happen to catch a Tier 1 group in Moorcroft. I know that for a fact cause I've joined friends in Moorcroft to give them items so they can craft 2-star equipment. If anything, you can benefit from catching a Tier 1 group cause they have to drop their vials/vitapods.

Get in a large guild or a large friend list, go to social tab, look for someone who has an open party, drop in :D If you're a nicer person than me, you might even ASK if you can join.

The only bad thing is this still won't solve the problem with joining a group in progress with an AFK leader. I still think we need the ability to "continue on alone" at any time option. http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/2156

Erm... Doesn't the game take you to a Tier 2 group if you click the big Tier 2 button on the gate screen and then click Join a Party? Pending, of course, there is a party to join and you have clearance.

Dog, he/she just doesn't like

Dog, he/she just doesn't like joining parties at Moorcroft with a bunch of tier 1 players who aren't planning on continuing when he/she wants to be with a party.

Uh

Why not just go to the lift and start your party on the lower floor if you get on a Moor floor? People will join it eventually.

Wouldn't the next person to

Wouldn't the next person to join wind up with the T1 group you just left?

Without understanding how the game chooses which group you join it is difficult to say.
