There are alot of people saying that the gran faust sucks compared to faust, but I can't find any vids, or pics showing me the size of the blade in comparison to the faust
Gran Faust Charge
If you're in tier 2 (due to Faust's popularity during Jelly runs), the Gran Faust is just marginally better in the deepest T2 floors, but generally a worse weapon. The first thing is due to the damage throttling of weapons, making 4* and 5* do almost the same damage. The problem is that the charge time for GF is horrendous, rendering it near useless within actual combat unless you're already been prepping it up 8 seconds before the first strike in a spawned room. Additionally, being cursed is inefficient if you are forced to change weapons as the whole motivation of using (Gran) Faust is the damage boost from shadow against Jellies, so switching it out basically renders your damage boost neutralized.
The Faust and Gran Faust are great, but the penalty is the necessity to have an anti-curse set of armor. Divine Veil and Valkyrie are great, also when using those sets, instead of two weapons being cursed only one will be, so when it comes to something like the Jelly King you can have weapons that are great utilities all around, thus inefficiency is minimized.
TS is asking for a comparison between the Faust and the Gran Faust charge attack, some of the replies here are way off.
Gran Faust has a longer charge time than the Faust
Gran Faust has a slightly larger charge attack than the Faust
Gran Faust has an equal chance to cause curse as the Faust
Also, having curse resistance only reduces the duration of the curse and the number of vials cursed, it has not been proven to reduce the chances of you getting cursed contrary to popular belief. I myself have a a full set of Divine Veil/Mantle, and it doesn't seem to reduce the chances of me getting cursed any less than my Vog set.
I haven't tested it in months when I've actually mained GF, but the probability of cursing was different in my and other guild member's tests. Faust's probability was less than 10% while Gran Faust's was closer to 30%.
And it is my favorite sword, first 5 star craft I did, I use the charge fairly often in times of need and I dont get cursed so easily. It prob takes about 3-6 times for me to get cursed, and it curses monsters with or without charge. Like I love it, and you would be fine if you equip good to curse and have more weapon slots. :) btw the sword is like twice as big as faust and the charge is one huge blade arrow...err...whatever you call that. xD
Don't forget to add these in:
Gran Faust's damage increases and cap at depth 28, meaning that GF deals more damage than Faust in T3 (~40-50 pt per swing at most)
Gran Faust's curse is stronger (and last longer) than Faust (253 in T3 and 190-210-ish, relatively)
Okey.... The Divine Set's Max Curse resist is probably to reduce the effects of curse, not preventing it in the 1st place.
Gran Faust's charge attack can inflict curse on almost every single living (exceptions: Duke, Fiend (not silkwings), Undead), making it almost a perfect weapon.
As a result, OOO put a time price-tag on the charge time as well as decrease the total blast area of the projectile (T3 Phantom's Gran Fausts can shoot 3 projectiles just like the DA.)
That pretty much explain everything.
Oh and how's the Gran Faust? For me it's completely useless right now -_-
Y u no put gremlins or slimes before FSC y( @x@)y
that's incorrect, the gran faust fires 1 big sword out in front.
I am also a GF user, i love it, i recommend it. I will probably get flamed for this, but i prefer over DA
^ Um, he was referring to the Tier 3 Phantoms having a 3 projectile charge :)
yea, but they aren't Fausts, are they. They look like Cutters. Haxxor
My GF (and DA, actually) have been relegated to the back of the weapons pile, unfortunately. I light things up with bombs and chop the remainder down with a barb or vanquisher.
I mained the DA and GF for a long time. Honestly, if you like the big swords, these are the only real way to go. I found GF to be more powerful, seemingly longer reach and knockback, and a more effective curse of the 2nd swing than the regular Faust. I didn't think the reg Faust even got a non-charge curse, does it?
Also, I honestly don't think you should bother with anti-curse gear unless you get some UVs and a trinket. By the time you're using a GF, you should also have at least one more slot open. Carry useful weapons, and curse will never be a problem. I really never used the charge attack on my GF and popped curses all the time. Between that, and an atk boost of high or better, and I'm the absolute bane of Lichen Colonies.
getting back to answering your question, GF is better. How much better depends on you. It's like the argument against the Cold Iron line...less mainline power, but a really powerful trick to it.
well from my experience the damage dealt in tier 2 is nearly the same as the ordinary faust, the charge time it's much longer and i seem to get cursed alot more often when using the gran faust's charge then the ordinary faust.
You got it. Come and welcome the Silver Falcon Gate. :V
Geekfox you just quoted a 4 month old post.
yes fallenhope that's already been mentioned. Now stop bumping and let this thread (re)die
Hardly... Gran Faust is better than the Faust. More powerful and it has a better level of curse.
The side-effect of having better curse is that no amount of curse resistance will make you immune. It is possible to have enough resistance from armor or UVs to never get cursed by the Faust's charge attack, but that isn't possible with the Gran Faust.
Curse isn't a big deal. Most of the issue can be mitigated by carrying 4 weapons and vials, that way you'll have something non-cursed to use. When you do get cursed and it takes out the weapon of choice, just switch to another weapon until the curse wears off. Rarely is that going to be problematic. You can also use a Remedy Capsule to remove curse.
On the other hand, curse is devastating to enemies. It takes down the Jelly King, Giant Lichen Colonies, and Menders/Silkwings very quickly.
