what?

You need to provide more details if you want to hold a writing contest. More so if what you're doing is ostensibly commissioning short stories, man. Even more so when we know nothing about a character you want included in it. As for your rewards, they're not motivating enough for people to get off of their arses and write. Your top reward is very vague, 50CE for second place is pitiful, can be obtained very quickly in SK, and suggests that the quality of the top prize will be similarly poor, as do the rest of the rewards, which are even sadder. I suggest that you just try to commission something, instead of holding a contest whose known rewards add up to less than $0.19 USD (value of known rewards estimated at 3334 CR, because I cannot be arsed to log in and check the rate of CE right now, so I just used the rate of 6kCR to 100CE, and since $.01 USD buys slightly more than 3 CE, using a rate of 60 CR to 1 CE (result of 6k + CR being worth 100 CE), you end up with a rate of $.01 USD to a hair over 183 CR, which in turn results in 3334 CR being worth less than $0.19 USD). Mind you, unless your "special item" is the dog's bollocks (very good), you won't have much luck, unless the commissioned writer is feeling generous and has a commitment to excellence.

Nope.

I do not endorse this, for the same reasons aavb so eloquently put forth.

It's a bit of a waste of time for anyone to even consider doing this, since the amount of effort put into the story would likely yield far greater rewards if the same effort was put towards actually playing SK, instead of attempting to craft some fiction in the hopes of appealing to some cheap player's sense of vanity. Just hazarding a guess, but judging from the prizes and the way #2 is phrased, I'd reckon that even if I were to write a bang-up awesome story, if it included you getting miserably killed in the first few paragraphs you wouldn't even consider my submission.

Hmm....2 pages...I suggest

Hmm....2 pages...
I suggest we all do a fan-fic collab in which Venrock gets horribly mauled.
And we all have to do only 1 paragraph :D

here. i guess.

Survivor

This is the story of a courageous Spiral Knight, stranded on an island. The following is his journal, found on his dead body. He was found lying facedown on the ground, a spear impaled in his back. We hope that someday, we will learn what happened to him, and this journal will be the key to unlocking the mystery.

-Kozma, leader of the Spiral Order

Entry One

I might as well start keeping a track of everything that’ll happen to me on this lonesome island. But first, I should start at the beginning.

My name is Venrock, one of the many Spiral Knights who volunteered to colonize the new landmass we had found on Cradle. We were traveling on the great ship the “Kozma,” named after the leader of the Spiral Order itself. At first, it was all peaceful, no disturbances whatsoever.
Then the storm hit.
In the middle of the day, a storm brewed up, coming out of nowhere. The wind and waves thrusted the Kozma back and forth, eventually capsizing it. The last thing I remember before waking up on this island was being thrown overboard.
I’m going to explore the island now. More later.

Entry 2

The island is pretty big. It’s about the size of the Firestorm Citadel and the Gloaming Wildwoods combined. The flora and fauna are unlike any I have seen before. They puzzle me greatly.
I have found a nice, small, elevated area to build a hut, where I can be safe from any floods and storms. Well, maybe not storms.

Entry 3

Explored the island a bit more. The center of the island is thick with trees and bushes. And they are deadly. Just today, I was trekking through the trees, when a pine cone dropped from a nearby tree, exploding in a blast of sharp splinters. They reminded me of the Spine Cone bombs from the Snarbolax.

Entry 4

Looked for signs of intelligent life today. Found none. However, I did find a hidden cave near the center of the forest. Inside were some interesting carvings and writings in a different language. I still have yet to decipher their meanings.

Entry 5

Nothing.

Entry 6
Nada

Entry 7

Jackpot! I found an intelligent being! Except he was dead.
I was exploring the cave I had found a few days ago, when I stumbled upon a pit of lava. Nearly slipping into it, I slowly backed away. Then I noticed something floating in the lava. It was a Spiral Knight.
I went down to fetch him, and found out that he was nothing more than some armor held together by a blackened crust. He had somehow fallen in and died. I concluded that he had been dead for some time. Maybe a few weeks. However, that meant that I wasn’t the only one to discover this island.

Entry 8

I was looking through the deceased Knight’s armor when I came upon a sack. Inside was a Twisted Snarble Barb and a journal. No sign of anything to write in the journal with, though. I looked through his journal, hoping to learn a bit about this island.

Entry 9

Strange things have been happening ever since I found the dead body. Each time I return from exploring, I find my hut a mess. There are several small tracks leading away in different directions.

Eh, must be nothing except the local wildlife.

Entry 10

I explored the forest once more, cutting my way through the branches of trees to the center of the island. In the direct center, I found a small building. It looked nothing like anything I had ever seen before. Upon further investigation, I found a small tablet, strange words written on it. I took it back with me to my hut to study.

Entry 11

I discovered the secret of the tablet! The words on it look like the Spiral Knights’ type of writing, only a bit different. It might be an earlier form of our writing. The question is, how did it come to be here?

Entry 12

I decoded the tablet today. What I came up with was something like this:

The secret of this island is hidden within the cavern of acid.

What the heck does that mean?

Entry 13

I explored the island again, looking for this so-called “Cavern of Acid” to no avail. Will try again tomorrow.

Entry 14

Nothing

Entry 15

Even more nothing

Entry 16

I might as well keep a tally of how many days I find nothing about the cavern instead of writing “nothing” for every entry..

111111111111111111111111111111111

Entry 17

After 33 days since Entry 16, I have finally found the Cavern of Acid! I think. In the way back of the cave I found earlier was a network of tunnels. Strangely, they al ended at the same place; a lake of acid.
There were flags and weapons and other instruments scattered around the lake’s shore. Floating in the lake were more dead Spiral Knights, alone with deceased animals that I don’t know. Attached to the cave ceiling is a cage on a chain.
I think I may have found a sacrificial temple of some kind. The cage lowers directly to the center of the acid lake, where most of the bodies are gathered.
I fear that I am not alone on this island…

Entry 18

My hut is being sacked more and more often now. I am sure that it is not the work of any animal.

Entry 19

I checked the acid lake again. I walked around the shore, looking for any clues as to what kind of activity goes on on this island. So far, nothing.

Entry 20

Nothing

Entry 21

My efforts have paid off. I have found another tablet, part of it Spiral writing and the other a foreign language. I believe this to be some kind of translation stone between my language and this islands.

Entry 22

The writings on the cave’s tunnels matches the writing on the tablet! I begin my exhausting to decipher the meaning of those words.

Entry 23

It’s been a few days since I’ve written. I’ve been to busy decoding the message on the cavern walls. But I’m finally finished. Here’s what I got. Apparently, it’s some kind of warning.

My name is Necro. I used to be a Spiral Knight, until I was abducted by unknown beings and placed on this island. This is my story.

I used to be a successful scientist in the town Haven. I had no enemies. But one night, I was kidnapped and dropped on this island.

Something is ~~~~~ with this island. I have found a pool of ac~~, where many b~~~s have ~~~~ ki~~~~. ~~ere is som~thing on this ~~~~~ that cannot be ~~~ored. The ~~~~~ are coming.

*~ letters are rubbed off the story on the wall.

Entry 25

I traveled back to the acid, looking for more clues. There is something new and sinister on this island now, ever since I read the poor Knight’s story. Even if much of it is weathered away, I cannot help but feel that I am not safe.

Entry 26

My hut is no lo~~er safe. I ~~k~ up a few da~s a~o, a silhoue~~~ a bl!~~~ ~~~~~~~ my bod~. ~ was lucky to h~~e es~ap~~ th~~ time, but I fea~ that ~ will n~ be so ~~~~y any mo~~.

*~ letters are blotted out by a dark, scarlet liquid.

Entry 27

My fears have been comfirmed. I am no longer safe anywhere.

I do not expect to leave this island alive.
Entry 28

This may be my last entry, but if anyone ever finds this journal, they may have some clue as to what happened to me.

I am being tracked.
