My goal is to get the following:

- Full Vog Cub set
- Full Skolver set
- Barb Thorn Shield
- Divine Avenger
- Gran Faust
- Barb Thorn Blade
- A fourth weapon (bomb or gun), open to suggestions
- Trinkets to complement these (suggestions welcome)

This way I have all damage types covered.

Is this a good plan?

Also, I know UVs will be hard to come by on those weaps, since the base versions are not craftable, so I know I might have to take my chances with Punch, or do without. But what UVs would be most beneficial for each of these items, and what should I not bother with trying to get UVs?

Thanks in advance!

What Dark Ritual?

If you only want one set, then go either:

Vog Cub Cap
Radiant Silvermail

Or

Divine Veil
Skolver Coat

As for weapons and all, get a fourth slot, make it a supernova. Or valiance. Or any neutralizer.

Shields:

You'll want one for each type, you'll prolly want a barb thorn, grey Owlite, and crest of Almire.

Ok, I can see why you

Ok, I can see why you recommend those combinations of armor, since they would cover all 4 types of damage (including normal). However, I am interested in the sword bonuses they offer (attack speed for vog cub, dmg for skulver), especially attack speed for the DA and GF, which are slow to begin with.

Granted, I am kind of taking my advice from the Swordmaster Guide, but I figure that's a good place to start. For some reason, it doesn't mention those combinations.

Ultimately, I don't mind working towards multiple sets of equipment (not just one), but I do want to get good UVs on stuff that it makes sense to try for. I want to avoid the scenario where I level something up to 5* and then can't get the UVs I want on them to improve them even more; seems like it makes sense to try to buy the lowest-level version with the UVs I want, and then upgrade them myself. But I don't have massive amounts of crowns yet, either, so maybe it makes sense to just upgrade and then once I get enough money, try Punch over and over until I get what I want. But right now, I don't even know what I want :/ so that makes it hard to make the next step without worrying about not being able to go back.

good plan, but here's some more to think about

Getting one sword of each type (piercing, elemental, shadow) is exactly what you want to do.

Shivermist Buster (freeze bomb) complements swords very well. Electron Vortex might also work well.

I echo the recommendation of Divine Veil with Skolver Coat.

Consider Acheron instead of GF. I love them both, but I've found that the hardest shadow-susceptible stuff in the game is gremlins on Strata 5 and 6. They are a bit fast for GF, so I prefer Acheron for them. And Acheron is also fine against slimes. So sadly I don't use my GF much anymore.

Final Flourish is identical to BTB in regular attacks. Its charge attack damages one monster heavily, while BTB's charge damages several monsters less. Just something to consider.

Hmm, thanks BigFoot and

Hmm, thanks BigFoot and jdavis, that makes sense.

I will definitely consider Acheron. One other benefit is that I won't have to worry about cursing myself!

And Final Flourish will be much easier to get than BTB, since I don't have to farm Snarby for the tokens to get the Snarble Barb to upgrade to it.

So, should I even worry about trying to get good UVs on stuff, or just wait til later and try to buy the UVs from Punch?

Snarby farming is pretty easy

Snarby farming is pretty easy and fun. No need to avoid getting the snarblebarb.

Punch will be likely to be

Punch will be likely to be more expensive, only if you get extremely lucky you'll get something worth the price.

If you cant afford things, go with the uvs you can afford. Medium uvs on non-top variants are usually affordable (ie med shock wolver). Low uvs are affordable on top variants (ie low CTR calibur). Higher uvs, if cheap, probably aren't useful for the item unless you have a special need for them.

I would expect the snarble barb to be superior to the flourish, just because of the charge. And its the easiest thing to farm anyway.

largely agree with others here

I largely agree with the other respondents here. BTB is just as easy to get as FF, because the Snarbolax is pretty easy. Whether BTB or FF has the better charge depends on your playing style. Imagine that you're in a fiend-themed level. You charge up your piercing sword and step on the party button. Four fiends appear in front of you. Would you rather knock all of them down, and come back to finish them off (BTB), or kill one of them, and come back to finish the rest of them (FF)?

I buy two-UV tickets from Punch, and have had decent luck.

How hard is it to get a UV on Snarble Barb though...

I don't think I've ever picked up a UV'ed item from Brinks, and even if it did, it's still 10 tokens...
Flourish can be rage-crafted or crafted by an alt, so I guess that'd be a bit cheaper than 20,000 crowns for a UV roll.

I agree with the people

I agree with the people saying BTB is easy to get; it's only 10 Frumious Fangs, not to mention T1 is easy enough. Not saying that BTB is better than FF, they're both great piercing weapons.

I also agree with jdavis about using the Acheron over the Gran Faust, but that's just my opinion. Gran Faust is better for knockback, while Acheron has more DPS and is faster.

Anyways, back to your main questions:
I would have to suggest getting just the Vog Cub set only because of its elemental defense and fire resistance because it's generally more useful than the Skolver's piercing defense and freeze resistance (I'm thinking an option more fitting for the end game: Firestorm Citadel). And for the Damage Bonus that the Skolver provides, you could get two Elite Slash Modules which is a cheaper option than getting another whole set in the short run (you'll have to buy two trinket slot unlocks for every 30 days). But if you do get the trinkets, not only will you have the VH Damage Bonus but you'll also have the VH Attack Speed Increase from your Vog Cub set.
For your last weapon, the Shivermist Buster would compliment your other weapons well. But once you reach the Firestorm Citadel, you'll probably want/need a gun.

For UVs, I'll just tell you what I think about them myself. I usually don't aim for UVs and get used to running levels without them, which overall makes me a better player than those with a bunch of Maximum UVs and such, not to mention it's cheaper for me. :D
But if I do decide to get UVs later, I just try my luck at Punch's wares. I've only been at Punch once for my Divine Avenger and I got a Damage Bonus vs Constructs: High, which is not bad at all. ;)

So do people generally get

So do people generally get one armor set and stick with it, or multiple sets and switch out based on situation (my guess is the latter). I'll say I have no problem going for multiple sets. I suppose that, like the shield suggestion, I should go for one of each damage type (ele, pierce, shadow), so I have my bases covered, right? Regardless, though, I'll probably pick one to level up first so I can get into T3 asap, and then try to play T3 levels appropiate to that set, to build up the cash required to level everything else up. Is that a good idea?

first general-purpose armor, then specialized

Yes, advanced players have multiple sets. First get general-purpose armor; then get specialized armor. For example, go with Skolver Coat and Divine Veil to cover all your bases (and get some nice bonuses). This is my default. Then get Vog Cub Coat and Cap for FSC. And feel free to mix them, of course. For JK runs I wear Skolver Coat with Vog Cub Cap, because Divine Veil is less useful. (Skolver Cap would be even better.) For shields I like Grey Owlite and Barbarous Thorn. I haven't looked into shadow shields. Note: If you want to do a service to the community, then consider armor other than Wolver-line; there's far too much of it around.

Haha, well, if there's too

Haha, well, if there's too much Wolver, there's probably a reason for it; it must be the best for what it does! Who am I to argue? ;) But yeah, I know what you mean.

But it's nice to know I'm pretty much on the right track now, thanks to everyone's great advice. Thanks!

Crest of Almire? Not anytime soon!

BigFootM's shield suggestions included Crest of Almire for Shadow defense. But in order to get its predecessor, the Blackened Crest, you need 30 Almirian Seals, which means beating LV ~10 times. In order to do that, wouldn't I need a Shadow shield already (for the undead levels)? Should I first go for the Dread Skelly Shield, and then work towards the CoA for a future goal?

What???? Only one gun>???????

For Gunslinger I usually use Polaris/Biohazard/Callahan/Storm Driver/Valiance.

They might not be effective with your strategies, but they're still (IMO) the best guns. Take your pick.

Towards the shield

I'd suggest a Grey owlite shield, its very common but with good reason.

I run mine in FSC and can still take one of vanadukes mace hits, so you dont NEED to go for the Dread Skelly shield but just my two cents.

On the 4th weapon slot, I

On the 4th weapon slot, I recommend a bomb from the vaporizer line. Pick your favourite status effect and go.
Ice is better when solo, poison for groups, shock and fire for Lockdown.
